Website launched to report road problems

Just noticed this on RTÉ.

A new website which allows people to report problems such as potholes, graffiti and illegal dumping in their area and which will be responded to within forty-eight hours has been launched today.

Fixyourstreet.ie will initially operate in the South Dublin County Council for three months but will eventually be rolled out to all local authorities.

Reports will be accepted via the website, through email or on twitter.

A mobile phone app is also being developed which will work with the site.

Officials in South Dublin County Council have committed to responding to the reports within two working days.

Members of the public will be able to monitor the response and continue to interact with the issue once it has been reported through the system.

The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Caitriona Jones has welcomed the scheme saying it would help improve the quality of life of citizens.

Just for the South Dublin CC at the minute. Seems like a good idea, only time will tell if they will actually fix the potholes and other problems though.

Fix as in throw some tar and chips in the pothole and beat it with the back of the shovel leaving it as bumpy and uneven as ever? The roads need to be resurfaced with smooth asphalt after years of these so called repair jobs and repeated diggings. Anyone then caught tampering or digging up roads need to resurface the entire section and leave it in a better state than it was found. Dame St was surfaced a couple of years ago for instance but since then the area around college green is an utter disgrace with lumps, mounds and manhole covers inches below the surface.

The repair jobs themselves that are as such of a problem as the potholes themselves.

what's wrong with either of them?

Excess tree / hedge growth often means you have to step out onto the road to get around it so is a completely valid point from a safety point of view.

Meh, people will post what they believe is important and someone does the triage and gets around to it eventually.
I like the idea of the website, at least then people can write to complain somewhere.

I wonder what would happen if I submitted this:

Different county council, so you can be sure that's it's totally new. Why bother using something 2nd hand when you aren't paying.

Once a pot hole has been reported, if it hasn't been repaired in a certain time, you can claim for damage to your car. If it's easy to report a pot hole and people start claiming for damages you'll start to see action on pot holes.

Never mind pothole, one brave soul want's the southbound M4 interchange adjusted. I like the credibility -2, and a nice +1 comment about overtaking lane clarification.

Looks like a truly innovative way of solving a problem, which wouldnt exactly be a regular occurance. Of course it will depend on councils actually carrying out the work but definitely a step in the right direction!

As if the local council staff don't know where the potholes are. Chances are they, or their family members drive over them every day. Thing is every spare penny is now being directed pay off the private gambling debts of Seanie, Bertie and pals. Write to the EU/IMF, they might lend us a few more pound at an extortionate rate.

A load of 'Hows your Father' do you really think that the likes of SDCC, DCC, Fingal etc (And thats just Dublin) are going to take any of these reports seriously, My personal opinion is a big fat NO

They may send an inspector (

) out to view the site of the issue highlighted on the map, assuming the map area is highlighted correctly and thats as far as it will go. But if the map position is not highlightled correctly they will not use common sence and have a look around the area to see if the map highlights wher correct, the will just P*** off back to the Depo, and wait for the next Jolly Boys Outing.
