Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You don't seriously mean that Chris Barry is attempting to tackle a serious subject he hasn't lifted from today's Herald and he's going to have a balanced debate about it?

Any topic that guy touches has a tendency to rapidly descend into farce, usually by him letting complete nutters on the air to drag the discussion straight into the gutter.

By all means start a thread about obstacles to wheelchair users, but if those late night phone in radio shows are to be the basis of your debate, then you would be better to just forget about the whole thing.

Okay sorry I was meant to come back to this last night but basically the issue that brought up this topic was a wheelchair user who had emailed the show about a recent experience in trying to get a DART but there was no one available with the ramp to bring her on.

As the show went on, it developed more into the "peoples attitude to disabled people" discussion with people calling each other every nake under the sun. So it was probably not the idea of highlighting the show.

Recent experiences I have witnessed include wheelchair users unable to board buses due to them being preoccupued by people with buggies (in one case I witnessed it was empty the person refused to move it) The radio show host did say while most drivers are sound when it comes to this others could be unfair putting it mildly. I have never witnessed it and in all drivers went or odd their way to try and accommodate the wheelchair user. Furthermore I have never witnessed wheelchair user not able to board a train as ramp was always available.

It seems to be an issue at unmanned stations, especially as Irish Rail lock their ramps away. See:

But I thought there was a number that wheelchair users had to ring before traveling so it could prepare staff well it used to be the case in anyway has it changed?

And last night's issue was no different!

But he did say the issue stemmed from an email from a wheelchair user unable to board a dart. What did the herald article say?

One station did because of vandalism. Its not a general thing.

They go to a station and ask for assistance to get on a particular train. If station is not attended then the driver is supposed to assist. They can ring for assistance if they want but its best to let them know in person at the station.

What was the reason given? what station? Had the passenger asked for assistance? meaning had they informed a staff member of their intention of getting a particular train ?

I mentioned the Herald as an example of the type of source he typically uses as 'inspiration' for his topics i.e. fiction.
