Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    26.2 miles was the distance set at the London Olympics in 1948 because the royal family wanted to see the finish or the start of the race. Before that, the race length varied from 24 to 27 miles.

    Another factual error is the cheetah fact. Cheetahs don't suffer overheating after 1.5 miles unless they actually caught their prey. In the scenario he's talking about, it's actually stress that causes overheating and not exercise induced.

    The cheetah actually shows twice as much metabolic heat when catching prey compared to a failed attempt lasting twice the distance.

    The British decided this should be the official distance and were shocked when the other European federations accepted it, usually there would be an argument just for the sake of it. What they didn't realise was that 26 miles 385 yards was almost exactly 42km's (just less 100m) a nice round figure in the rest of Europe.

    It was the 1908 games in London where they did that, but the distance wasn't agreed by everyone until 1921.

    Pretty sure its 42.2k. So many things wrong in the video and this thread that its hard to know if the so called facts later on in the clip are bs or not.

    Hey we could go to centimeters if your arsed. With the 1% margin its actually closer to 42.6k. Marathon to Athens is also not 26.2m.
