Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

GROUND SOURCE HEATING HELP NEEDED PLEASE RCD TRIPPING

    Please can anyone help?

    I live is a housing association house, we have ground source heating. We have lived here for 5 years and every single year its breaks, most years it takes weeks to get fixed and this year is no different but no one can work out what the issue is - that and they wont listen to me!

    The heating is apparently not on the rcd.

    This is the issue, We have a honeywell cm901 thermostat, the hot water and the heating have seperate controls but both use the ground source pump.

    Since turning our heating back on for the winter we keep having tripping electrics. The temp will get to where the thermostat is set to, the thermostat clicks, the ground source powers down then the electrics trip!

    It only does it when we use the heating, it doesnt do it when the heating is off and its always the same - power down the trip.

    We have had 5 engineer visits now, they are saying its "impossible" "Coincidence" "performing magic" as its tripping the RCD and it isnt even on the RCD.

    They now insist its the kitchen plug sockets but we`ve had no issues with the kitchen at all. If the heating is off we can live completely normally with nothing tipping, its only when the heating is on that it trips.

    A electrician came and turned off the kitchen sockets, this stopped the tripping BUT when the heating powered down we had very bad arcing and flashing lights instead to the point where we switched the heating back off anyway.

    My plug sockets are now back on, tested, replaced and all working. The heating was switched back on - within an hour it tripped again, as before temp reached, powered down then trip!

    Until now it was only effecting the heating and not the water but this is now also tripping.

    It doesnt trip every time, its hit and miss, it`ll either arc and the lights flicker or it will trip.

    Its driving us mad, to us it must be a pump issue but we`re told technically if its not on the CD its impossible that its tripping the RCD but its literally only when the heating (and now water) are used...if they are off theres no issue.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    We`re being fobbed off alot by the housing association, 6 weeks in and no progress at all. We have 2 young children and its getting very cold.

    Is it possible that one of the circ pumps or the controllers are wired through the rcd, even just the neutral from one of these going to the wrong neutral bar is enough for the rcd to register an imbalance and trip out.

    fixed!

    its been 8 weeks but its finally fixed.

    The short version of the issue is apparently that "The relays inside the unit were "chattering" which was causing the rcd to trip eventhough it doesnt look like the ground source is wired to the rcd at all"

    means nothing to me but im just glad to have heating again! Its been a very cold couple of months!
