How to stop puppy barking

    Our little puppy is about 1 year old. She usually has her special perch on the windowsills in either the kitchen or the sitting room and whenever anyone walks by, which happens quite frequently as it's a popular country laneway, she barks at them. This can be quite annoying for us and those out walking. Any ideas on how to make her stop?

    Don't let her see out the window?

    The dog is defending its patch. This is verified as working because those people then don't enter the house. If the dog is barking at friends or family, invite those people into the house and introduce them to the dog and there will be less barking at them.

    I'm not sure how useful telling off the dog would be.

    Tell her not to do it? We had a similar situation with our guy barking at dogs/tigers/cartoon dogs etc on TV and it took all of 10 mins to sort. It had gradually gotten worse and worse to the point where he was going ballistic barking and growling - he's on crate rest so I was worried he was going to hurt himself. Anyhoos the other morning one of those Buddy movies with all the talking puppies was on and he went mad.. everytime he barked I told him his bold word (too bad) and changed the channel - within 10 mins he was glued to the movie lol! :pac:

    Maybe the OP is a responsible owner who doesn't want their dog annoying their neighbors and becoming a nuisance?

    It'd be pricey but you could get a tinted window so she can't see out but then it would have to be tinted both ways so people can't see in, or triple glazed window to cut down on the noise she could bark away then and passers by shouldn't be bothered anyway lots of dogs do this and people can just keep on walking anyway.

    Probably easier and cheaper just stop her being able to get up at the window altogether, perhaps take her out a couple of extra times to wear her out a bit.
