Headset for an 8 year old

I've recently finished a build for my nephew and I've been asked to find a decent headset c/w mic for him.

He's only 8 so it would need to be fairly light, ideally connected to the PC via the rear optical port ( connection's there so might as well use it if it gives better sound ).

Doesn't need to be wireless.

He's €100 left from his communion money but I'd like to keep the cost down as much as possible so he's something left at the end of it.

The only headset I've ever owned is a set of Sharkoon X-Tatic from around 5 or so years ago so I'm completely out of the loop with headsets.

Any recommendations ?

Headsets don't usually use the optical port. Too much cable movement I think? I'd suggest this. Used it for years at home. Lovely headset for the money.

If you don't have access to the 3.5mm output/input ports for whatever reason and need a usb headset.

I've only used the Gamecom 780 and creative fatality myself. The logitech just seems to be a fairly solid headset. The Gamecom is amazing sound quality in emulated 7.1 surround sound. You'd need to hear it to believe it. It might be a bit big on an 8 year old though.
The Creative fatality would suit a young head better. It's a solid headset that i've had at home for about... hell that thing is about 8 years old at this stage :L Still going strong. Picks up dust on the cloth earcups but it is really comfortable.

Optical provides no "power", youd need a separate DAC/AMP to use optical, or buy a unit that comes with one (typically not cheap). Also optical is overkill for stereo and 5.1 headsets are kinda silly considering what can be done with stereo.

Focus on size, getting something small will make it most comfortable for him. Id probably look to see what the smallest unit steelseries make is.
