Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New gas meters

Not sure where to ask this but seeing as there are some gas people on here, it seems like a handy place to ask.

Anyway, Bord Gais have just sent me a letter informing me they're planning on upgrading my gas meter. Fair enough, but they don't say anything about what was wrong with old one, or what extra functionality the new one will provide, if any. The house was built in 1995, so the old one isn't 20 years old yet, and still looks in very good condition, so I wouldn't think it'd be age.

If it's going to be some kind of smart meter, or one that can be read remotely, I don't see how that can be done seeing as there's no electricity supply in the meter box.

So, anyone any idea what sets these new meters apart from the 'old' ones?

They have an internal battery that powers their transmitter. They are generally replaced every 5 years. LPG bulk storage tanks are currently read this way for knowing when to tanks are low.
Other types can be read within a shirt distance so the person reading only needs to drive by.

No loss or gain for you though.
