Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Options for dog minding over summer

    We have an 18month old cockerpoo who is a complete house pet, used to a lot of attention and company of our young children.
    We are abroad for 2 months over summer visiting family and have her booked into a good kennel. We are however slightly worried about her given the length of time and would be interested in hearing about or from anyone who could offer a home boarding situation (your home, not ours...). She is neutured, good with other dogs but also a bit bossy and barks at strangers when she firsts meet them.
    From last week in June to last week in August.
    Within an hour of Dublin.
    Please contact if you know of any possibilities, we will require (and check) a number of references as will need to be convinced any options are as safe as the kennels.

    If you have aready booked a kennels and do not intend to use them please let them know NOW. As it is not very nice to have them turn away customers in the busy season on the possiblity that you may or may not turn up. :mad:

    firstly a normal kennel situation ie a small run etc is not ideal for two months... and honestly it would be very cruel on your dog... its ok for a few nights etc ... these kennels are designed as a stop gate while people are away for a few days... not months... your dog would have very little interaction apart from maybe one walk per day etc... so i would def not recommend boarding kennels...

    i have a cocker and if i left him in boarding kennels for two months he would loose his life... cockers (and im sure your dog too) are very sociable dogs and love company... so boarding kennels would be hell on earth from them...

    here's who i use... they both do "Home stay"... ie my cocker stays in the house with them... ie he's part of the family.. loads of interaction... they also have other dogs there at the same time... so its great for the dogs socialisation etc...

    This one is between bray and greystones... her name is barbara 087 260 6095... my cocker adores her... (€18 per day but im sure she will do better if its for two months etc)

    the next one is my cockers dog walker.. her name is rhona.... i have used her from home stay too... (€30 per day... again im sure she will do better rates for long term)....she is brilliant... www.walkies.ie

    I would definitely go with a home boarding situation. Between foster dogs and dogs I've home boarded myself I can tell you they settle into the house's routine very quickly, particularily if there are other dogs in the house

    Ditto for the home boarding.

    I would offer to help but I am fully booked for that period. (Just saying, so you better get busy as home boarding fills up REALLY quickly!)

    I have taken dogs for long periods in the summer (6-8 weeks) and they really do integrate with the family. So much so that in fact he may be a little lonely the first couple of days back home.

    I am in Shankill, and I also have 2 other home boarding contacts near here so let me know if you need more details for them.

    Make sure whoever you use has full insurance, and your dog will need to have a kennel cough vaccination. It might be an idea to try and leave him for a couple of afternoons, or a night or 2 before then. That is what I normally do with new dogs anyway.
