Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Laptop Battery Life

    I just recently bought a new laptop, it was a custom build, not a branded pc. I got it from PC Specialists. i have to say the laptop is amazing but my problem and new this before getting a gaming laptop that the battery doesn't last long but on full charge, i get about 2-3 hours with out gaming or doing anything power consuming. The laptop has Nvidia Optimus so when I'm not gaming it is using Intel HD graphics.

    So just curious is this normal or is it not configured correctly.

    Laptop Specs:
    i7 4710m
    8GB Ram
    GTX 970m
    1TB HDD
    250 GB Samsung Evo 850 SSD.
    15" IPS Panel Display.
    Backlit Keyboard (when the charger isn't in i have this off)

    Keep the screen brightness low, but I can only imagine that you're not really going to be able to improve things all that much unfortunately...

    Yes i was thinking the same im to bothered i knew before i bought the laptop that the battery wasn't going to be the best bought ill just have to watch what i am doing once i don't have the charger in.

    Did you consider the availabilty of replacement batteries when you were considering this model? Or is a name-brand battery compatible?

    Are you able to get higher-cell batteries for your machine, for down the line if you wanted to?

    The constant charging when plugged into the mains will reduce battery life.

    This isn't true.

    The battery will not constantly charge when plugged in and full, it will stop charging the battery when the battery detects it is at capacity.

    Devices with internal, non removable batteries fair just fine with this type of charging for years. And plus, removing the battery is simply a pain in the arse, especially if you knock the charger cable when using it.

    It depends on the charging circuit, ideally it should allow it to run down to 90% before trickle charging back up. Some units will go 97-100-97-100 which isnt great, but its a huge deal either.

    OP gaming laptops never last long on battery. Average laptop has a similar size battery and a 33XX i5 say, TDP of around 20W, yours has a 45W+ CPU and a 125W GPU! Gaming laptops have only ever been "pseudo-portable".

    No i honestly never looked for a battery replacement because i cant say i know enough about laptop batteries to buy another and i have looked at some reviews for the laptop i have and there all the same "Great laptop loads of power, looks great but bad battery life when doing anything on it" Im not to bothered if it ever comes down to needing another im sure ill be able to find one somewhere, i think it is a 60 wh battery.
