Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Upgrading Monitor

    Hey folks.

    Can I get any advice on this?

    Im getting a new monitor but I just find it so hard to pick the right one for me.

    My budget is 300-500. Im not going for 4K. I saw a 4K at a friends house and wasnt that overly blown away.

    Im going to give 21:9 a go but really im open to anything. I also want 29" to 32"

    My computer specs are as follows.

    Intel Core i7-4790K
    Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 8192MB
    Asus Maximus VII Formula
    NZXT liquid cooler
    16gb ram

    Here is what im thinking of so far

    Personally I would go for a higher resolution 21:9 at 3440X1440 such as the LG 34UM95. Bit pricey, but AOC/other brands have similar panels becoming available.

    You are right, that is an unbelievable monitor but comes with quite a price

    They will mos def drop in price when they become more available.

    IIRC LG make most 21:9 PANELS, but keep an eye out for the AOC U3477pqu, read something about it being considerably cheaper than the LG. Dell have a version due out as well.

    It's fair annoying that I had my mind made up but after reading users experience with thus monitor and LG awful customer service I think I'll give it a miss. Feck.

    You know I never expected to be this hard to pick a monitor. These reviews piss me off with their lag details. Just tell me will the ordinary man notice it or not?

    Anybody got a recommendation for 27 inch 1440p please. I really want to pull the trigger

    Didn't realise they were that bad...

    TBH I would notice lag as I play a lot of FPS' and use 120 hz monitors. If I was in the market for 1440p I would look at the Korean monitors, Catleap, QNIX, etc. which can be overclocked to some degree and some are shipped overclocked to 120 hz -e.g. Tempest X27OC, though not sure about shipping to this part of the world.

    I looked into getting one, and from what I have read while IPS monitors can overclock to 100+hz they still have a degree of blurring. Even though your'e overclocking the frequency the IPS pixels are not as fast at switching on IPS panels as on a 120hz TN panel. No direct experience of input lag with a 1440p Korean monitor, so maybe check the Catleap thread.

    If you are feeling flush, there's the ROG Swift, 1440p and 120hz with decent colours-but costs stupid money..maybe ask santa :)

    I've an asus pb2878q and think very highly of it, the stand is excellent and once you change the presets a little to reduce some of the blue dominance it's very good. I wasn't impressed with the stands on the Korean offerings and the possibility of getting a bad one was put me off.

    It's supposedly overclockable to 80/85 but I haven't tried it out.
