Veolia Transport charity raffle and match raised € 25,000 for The National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght.

A charity raffle and football match between Veolia Transport Ireland’s Football team and Shamrock Rovers ended in a € 25,000 windfall for the National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght.

The idea for the raffle and charity match came from Luas Driver Kevin Kavanagh who approached the company in June 07 and asked Veolia to support The National Children’s Hospital. The decision was made without hesitation and prizes were sought for the raffle and staff went into training for the big game which took place in Tolka Park, Dublin on Sunday November 11th.

The 1st prize a Ford Ka Car valued at € 12,500 was donated by Veolia Transport and won by Ms. Musoke a wife of a Luas driver!

Although the Veolia Team did not win the match 2 goals were scored against Rovers by the Veolia Team!

National Television Personality Brian Ormond was MC for the day and Professional Boxer Bernard Dunne showed his support for the hospital by playing on the day with the Veolia team. Although some of the football team might feel sore it was a great day out for family and friends and we would like to thank everybody for their kind donations.

I noticed the posters for this on Luas stops in the city. While not to take away from the great money raised for charity, I found it strange that the top prize, donated by Veolia, was a car.
For a public transport company, it seems odd to give a car away as a prize.
