What are the other texts you're doing?

You can talk about poverty- in the title story the family have to struggle to make ends meet when Larry's father arrives home from the war and finds it difficult to get work.
Also seen in "The Duke's Children" when Larry's ashamed of his family's poverty.

Class division & Snobbery- The Irish obsession with "respectability" pervades many of the stories in the anthology, eg, "The Ugly Duckling", "The Duke's children".

It's a patriarchal society- the authority figures in all the stories are men- priests, policemen, local councillors, etc.

Religion is important- The church is an important institution, society is predominantly Catholic.

It's a close knit community & people are supportive of one another, eg, in "Bridal Night" we see how Mrs Sullivan's neighbours, the Donoghues, come to her assistance whenever her son Denis (who is slipping into insanity) becomes difficult to manage. Miss Regan, the local teacher, even risks her reputation by spending the night with Denis in order to calm the troubled man.
Also to be seen in "The Majesty of the Law"
