Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Breast lump

Hi there, I'm writing this on behalf of my mum. She found a lump on her breast a few months ago but told no one! When she finally confessed to me I got straight on the phone and made an appointment for her at the breast clinic for a mammogram. She had her mammogram 2 weeks ago, she got a letter Monday asking her to go back on Wednesday of the same week! I'm a little worried now because it seems pretty fast!

Better to be seen quickly,it may be nothing, but if it is "something" -it could be a cyst too, don't forget- it's best to know and get moving on whatever needs to be done-or have your minds set to rest.

Not asking for medical advice so can't see why not?

Maybe ask robfowl over health sciences about that..

The only thing that can come out of this is (a) it's fine don't worry, or (b) it's the worse case scenario.. No one can really offer the op anything because we simply don't know!

This happened to my mum as well, called back again after a mammogram. Apparently callbacks happen quite a lot and generally turn out to be fine. The nurse there the second time told her that, I think. It was a long time ago now. Best of luck :)

From your recent experiences in the health sciences forum you are well aware of site rules such as a) if you have a problem with a post, report it and b) do not discuss mod actions on thread. Infraction issued for charter breach.

FYI, the op here has not asked for medical advice such as "what is the lump?", indeed they haven't asked for any advice, instead just seem to have posted to express their concern/worry and get support. Nothing wrong with that.

    Hi Ella,
Well done on being proactive on your mum. Her initial reaction isn't at all unusual.

Can I suggest that either you, or your mum, or both, call the FREEFONE Irish Cancer Society Confidential Helpline number 1800 200 700, where you can talk, in confidence, to a Specialist Cancer Nurse. Alternatively there are many drop-in Cancer Support centres around the country.

It can help to talk about it, even if things, hopefully, turn out to be less than your worst fears. An informed and sympathetic ear can help ease the path.

There is also a wealth of info HERE, on the Irish Cancer Society's website.

    Good luck and take care!

Hi Ella. Best of luck to your Mum. I also found a breast lump just before Xmas. I know it's a very worrying time. I was called for a mammogram and a repeat one all within 2 weeks which is not unusual. Thank God it was nothing at all and went away itself. Hopefully your Mum will have a good result too :)

I had much the same experience as your Mum back in the 90's. I had a call-back and they did another mammogram and took fluid from the lump (didn't hurt!) and they had me back for about 7 weeks in a row! They were great, told me it wasn't cancer, it was a cyst and every single year I go for either a mammogram or a check-up. Feel much better that I'm under their 'care'. Hope your Mums grand!
