Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Andy it depends if the engine is running or seized. If its running you are talking about 600 for parts and about the same for labour. If its seized its going to be more.

You might be better of buying a reconditioned engine I might know where there is a good one. Is the tractor for restoration or are you going working with it???

Thanks for the replyCorkie yes the tractor is running but when you rev it and then let it down a loud clatter can be heard from inside her, big end most likely. Also theres some blue smoke so that must mean its burning some oil- oil rings not doin the job. If thats the case well wouldnt the liners need to be done?it will be for a mix of both as hopefully it will shake manure, use a transport box nothing heavy. The head has been completely overhauled a few months ago, professionally skimmed, new valves, etc so ill only need a block. What is the reconditioned one you know of like? Thanks.

The recon one was built by someone that knows them inside out and was not a rush job. You might be better off doing your own one seeing as you have the head done.

    Where you based????

The head was done in a machine shop in Loughrea. I dont think i could do the liners and such as i don't have the tools required. I'm in East Galway. Thanks again for your reply. :)

Only a stone's throw :) I don't know of any but im sure give it to a local mechanic he'll gladly do it for a well inflated price. Was the recon one a whole engine? It would seem better now to buy a recon one but on the other hand it would be nice to keep the original.. thanks for the replies Corkie.

It was a whole engine Im sure. Price the parts yourself and leave 500 for labour. I will find out how much the recon engine is going for..:)

A Major! That was my dads first tractor (upgrading from Shires)!
Actually have the nameplate from the bonnet which says it was a Super Major.
I remember being on it when I was about 3-4 and standing completely on the clutch and it never budged lol :-)
    Good memories.
    Got any pics OP?

Engine clatter is never good, You could be looking at having the crankshaft done
Engine parts listed here at €240 +vat but if the shaft is beyond repair then put another €400 + on for a new shaft and oil pump.
The liners appear to be wet type and if so are easy enough to do as they knock out handy enough and are seated simply but the lip clearance may need to be checked.
My rule of thumb was all the parts prices inc vat +50% covered most jobs with a codicil for extras as until you open up an engine one never knows what you will find and believe me I've found some odd damage and strange things............

Have a look here for parts.

Got a full block recently for a 135. Worked out cheaper than a recon of the old one, which wasn't an option anyway because of cracks.

as far as im aware there is no new blocks available anywhere.
Martin howley is pretty near you and theres nothing he doesnt know when it comes to tractor engines.

good quality engine parts are hard to get for a major. Bepco is the best if they have it in stock.
