Most important is to keep the injuries under control and be consistent (25 miles+ each week) with my running. And for times -

    800m: sub-3mins
    5k: sub-22mins 5k (PB is 23:29)
    10k: sub-47:30 min 10k (PB is 49:02)
    half: sub-1hr 45mins (PB 1:49:31)

    and finally ....
    - run a marathon!

Looking for improvement across the board basically :)!

The half-marathon goal is being carried over from 2014, though I did knock over 5 mins off my half PB last year I didn't get all the way there. Didn't hit my sub-23mins 5k goal from 2014 either (partly due to injuries getting in the way I think).

Hopefully writing them down will keep me honest.

    Distance - Goal [Current]
    5k - <19min [19:58]
    10k - <40min [41:55]
    10m - <60min [n/a]
    HM - <90 min [101]

Also, need to stay injury free to get >2000km in 2015.

Might have a go at some of the shorter 10 round numbers too.

Get to the bottom of my injury and get back running pain free.

I second this one & 12 months injury free if at all possible.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,610 ✭✭✭yaboya1

I also want a sub 10 minute beer mile!

Your 10 mile goal is massively out of kilter with your other goals. It would be roughly equivalent to a sub 80 10 mile, sub 36 10k and sub 17 5k

To maintain the level of awesomeness I have been at for the past 10 years.

Pretty much going to focus all my training on a single race. It's a risk but I am confident of hitting my target and winning.

    Beer Mile 2015: Sub 6.40

That's big talk. A 16 second national record. I hope you can back it up :)

    Easy money.

Last year I had no sleep, arrived to the stadium late and didn't have an opener. Amateur hour :). TRR would have still beaten me on my best but let's be honest, his best days are behind him.

Time to move over old man.....!!! I have no doubt you will go sub 2.30 next year but we all know where the real race is :D.

It's probably the only one I'll be specifically training for. I'm already aiming for ballycotton and mallow. I'm probably close enough to a 70-75 ish 10 mile at the moment, so I thought being a bit optimistic might push me on a bit. Maybe I should either revise the other goals, or just this one. :p Thanks for the advice though.

    5k < 19 (pb 19:16)

    10k < 39:00 (39:31)

    HM < 1:28 (1:29:03)

    Marathon < 3:05 (3:12:32)

This is ambitious based on my rate of progress at present. Particularly the last one.

My goals are so modest compared to most. ..but if I can tick them off by the summer I'll be happy

    5k 25mins
    10k 55 mins
Half marathon: I'll see how I feel by the summer and give it a whack!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,015 ✭✭✭jake1970

    5k sub 19

    10k sub 40

    Hm sub 1:30

    run my first marathon

Unfortunately these goals are very similar to last years goals :(

i have never ran a 5 mile or a 10 mile race, i hope to rectify this
    early in the new year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,182 ✭✭✭RonanP77

First of all recover from injury and stay that way. I'll be doing up a proper training plan and I have to stick to it. If I manage to get back running early enough in the year...........

    400m - sub 70 (88)
    1k - 3:30 (4:07)
    1mile - sub 6 (6:48)
    5k - sub 21 (22:00)
    10k - sub 50 (52:13)
    H/M - complete my first - sub 1:55

    Run 1000k+
    Learn to swim correctly.

I want to cut my times on the two local Duathlons by about 5 mins each and the same on the Kayakarun. I've never tried setting a time for shorter distances, my current times are taken from longer runs. I should be able to hit those targets and then get a good idea of how low I can go for them.

Ok, but your goal 10 mile pace is significantly faster than your goal 10k pace and slightly faster than your goal 5k pace.

My goals for next year are to:

    Be a better/faster runner
To keep shaving time off my 5k
To run 5 miles in an hour
To run a 10k without stopping

Like all my goals, I have others stacked up behind these for when I finally achieve them! :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,600 ✭✭✭Wubble Wubble

    5k - sub 20 (PB 20:46)
    5 miles - sub 33 (34:08)
    10k - sub 42 (43:56)
    10 miles - sub 1:12 (1:16)
    HM - sub 1:30 (1:37)
    Marathon - sub 3:45 (4:18)

Some may appear to be more ambitious than others, however, for various reasons, my training will be somewhat curtailed for the next few months at least. Based on my HM efforts, I should be able to smash my only marathon time to date, with better preparation if and when I can get around to it. And I know there's massive room for improvement in some of the other distances..

(Un)fortunately, I have no plans to race shorter or longer distances than those listed. I'd only look silly - as in, finishing miles behind everybody else - trying track based on these times. I may be nowhere near winning a race so far, but I haven't finished anywhere near last yet either :D

    My goals are
    5km -sub 21(currently 22.38)
    10km- sub 46(currently 46.58)
    HM -sub 1.40(currently 1.43.xx)

To race more, haven't raced in a long time, been shying away.
And to set at least 1 pb.

Are you being a bit conservative with the 10k?

You got 3 minutes last week and just looking for 1 minute next year?

It might be a bit soft compared with your other goals, I think you can beat 45 at least.

Rather than picking numbers out of the air I'd like some advice on realistic goals for next year. I plan to concentrate on 5k/10K races for the first half of the year and then go into another marathon training cycle for the rest of the year.

I may run a half marathon at some point but it wont be a specific goal. Not sure I'll manage a 10 Mile race this year.

Best times from 2013 and 2014 are shown below, what do you think?

    Distance|2013|2014|2015
    5K|23:46|21:09|19:xx
    5 Mile|44:53|38:30|34:xx
    10K|51:51|48:24|42:xx
    10 Mile|89:39|78:58|
    Half|2:02:23|1:42:51|1:37:xx
    Marathon|N/A|3:49:23|3:30:xx

    Thanks!

    Goals for 2015:

    - top 50 place in the 24 hrs worlds
    - run and finish the Spartathlon

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭ThePiedPiper

    2015 goals:

    Sub 17 5k
    Sub 36 10k
    1:18 half marathon
    2:47 marathon

Last years goals were overly ambitious, these should be more doable.

You might be right, possibily if I stick with it I could do better! Hope to race more anyways and make use of the park run on my door step.

I'm not back running long only a few months so the main goal is to keep at it.

    5km sub 22 mins (24 now)
    10km sub 45 mins (49 now)

Compete in 10 races Mainly 5 and 10 km but I hope to do one half marathon too.
