    NOTICE – ST PATRICK'S GUILD, 26th June 2013 - AAI Latest news -

    St. Patrick's Guild has informed the Adoption Authority of Ireland that it plans to withdraw from the provision of its Information and Tracing Service. A period of 12 - 18 months notice has been given to allow for plans to be put in place for a transfer of the service. St. Patrick's Guild has also notified the Health Service Executive of this decision and has entered into discussion with them about arrangements for the future.

    Meanwhile St. Patrick's Guild plans to continue working with the enquiries which it has received and will work in consultation with the Adoption Authority of Ireland and the Health Service Executive to effect a smooth transition of the service in the interests of its clients.

    What exactly does this mean? Will they continue to receive enquiries or from now on only deal with those they've already received? And will the tracing work they carried out still be available but through some other organisation?

    Business as usual- until the service and files are transferred elsewhere (aka HSE East). If you're unhappy with the delays with SPG- unfortunately your not going to be any happier when it goes over to the HSE- they don't appear to see the need to properly resource their tracing and reunion services.

    I guess that is any chance of finding out BMs gone now :confused:!

    Never say never. The odds are just stacked slightly more against you- which doesn't mean anything to begin with. Proceed as normal. Apply. Get your non-identifying information. Get into the queue. Start your own search. Take things as they come.

    Get the ball rolling- apply- nothing is impossible- searching is difficult- full of obstacles and emotions- but even annoyances such as this, can be overcome. A positive attitude, and sheer perseverance can work miracles.

    Despite being funded by the HSE annually, including over €126,000 last year, St Patrick’s Guild informed the Adoption Authority last week that it no longer has the resources to staff the organisation.

    The agency, run by the Religious Sisters of Charity, had been accredited by the Adoption Authority to assist adopted people and natural parents through tracing, counselling and mediating.

    St Patrick’s Guild dealt with more than 10,000 adoptions in Ireland and holds more than 13,000 files on children who were fostered or adopted.

    Negotiations have begun between St Patrick’s Guild and the HSE with regard to the possible handover of files in the next 12 to 18 months.

    Susan Lohan, director of the Adoption Rights Alliance, welcomed the fact that St Patrick’s Guild had withdrawn its tracing and information service, saying that it was one of “the worst performing, most discouraging and unhelpful of adoption agencies”.
