    Vibe?

If you want cheap speakers, Argos do Pioneer TSG-1721's for the same price as those Vibe things.

Vibe speakers are only good if you have an amplifier driving them. They will sound sh1te being driven from the head unit as the 70 watt RMS power of those speakers is much greater than the rms output of a head unit, which (depending on the brand) is anywhere between 18-25 watt RMS.

JVC, Pioneer etc all make speakers that are more suited to be driven off a head unit with a much lower RMS power rating than those Vibes. It's the RMS power that's important and not the "Max power".

Here is an example of 30 watt RMS JVC speakers that will run very well off the head unit alone.

    Cheers.

    Good info there.
I have a pioneer head unit.
It says 50w x4 on the front (I think!)
    Can double check tomorrow.

So it wouldn't power the vibes properly then?

If your aren't using an external amp then yes they will work much better than the Vibes as they are 35 watt rms vs the vibes 70 watt RMS. Your head unit push the pioneers much better as a result.

    No problem :)

The 50w x 4 printed on the front of the head unit is the max rating. The RMS rating of pioneers is usually around 22w x4. 22 watt won't push those vibes properly at all. Now it will power them but it won't sound good and the sound will probably be distorted at higher volume. I'd stick with speakers that are under 40 watt RMS tbh.

    OK.
    Thanks again!
I'll check my setup properly tonight as I think the car had a substantial sound system put in by the prev owner.
Just one of the door speakers has blown so must replace it.

    OK.
    Update on this.
From what I can see it had a decent sound system installed. There are heavy guage wires running through the car. Door speakers are Sony ones with 25 RMS and two nice pioneer 6*9 in the parcel shelf rated at 80 RMS.
There are leads for an amp running through the car. Possibly a sub too..
From my looking at it (and in far from an expert in this!) the prev owner took out the amp and front speakers and stuck some cheaper ones in the door.

So I'm thinking would it be worth my while buying the vibes and an amplifier and getting it running properly? The sound quality has been poor so far.
This is an amp I was looking at.

Now from reading a bit online people are not fans of 6*9. But if they are there why not use them is my thought...

What I would do is replace all 4 speakers and have them running off the head unit alone. I'd ditch the 6x9's and replace with something like these.

    And these for the doors.

You probably will need to source another parcel shelf if ditching the 6x9's but if you don't want to do that you could always get something like these, the RMS power is higher than the other speakers but not by a massive margin either and it's still certainly far lower than the 80watt RMS on your current speakers which mustn't sound that great at all being powered by the head unit.

You can have a look at other brands too such as pioneer, Kenwood etc

caraudiodirect.co.uk seem to have a large range of speakers so take a look on there if you want.

You can fit an amp too which will let you fit more powerful speakers and a good set of component speakers too but it depends on what you want out of the setup really.
