Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Best Place To Start With Kafka

    I'm interested in reading some of his works but not sure where to start.

    Could you give me any advice on what story or novel of his that I should read first? Thanks.

    I would suggest The Metamorphosis to start. Short 'n' sweet while encapsulating the elements that would later be termed Kafkaesque.

    Free epub/mobi/pdf here. It's short enough to read on a monitor (well, maybe not in one sitting) if you don't have an ereader or don't want to buy a physical copy 'til you see if he's for you.

    He only has three novels and some short stories. I'd get the short story collection which includes
    The Metamorphis.

    Personally, I think it's less which novel/ story you choose, and more which translation. An accessible translator good for people starting with Kafka is Hofmann. Muir is literal to the point of dryness, and may put you off a little to begin with. :)
