Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Grant Unsuccessful & Appeal Unsuccessful

    I was hoping someone could shed some light on my situation, particularly from people have received their grant (fees only) for the duration of their course or at least going into the second year and have been approved.

    Both my grant application and appeal have been unsuccessful. I haven't got a reason why the appeal was unsuccessful but I reckon its on the basis the reckon able income for my mother and I goes over the limit by €2000.

    The limit which was reduced by €2000 just this year also.

    I asked a friend who is in the same course and she said during the summer she received a letter to say if she passed her exams she would automatically be approved. I thought this would have been the case for myself but it hasn't been unfortunately.

    Im very confused and worried as I start next week now and I seriously doubt I can have €2750 saved by christmas.

    Do you have to have the full 2750 by Christmas?

    It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Have you asked your college about the Free Fees Initiative. Worth a try as this is not an application to SUSI.
    Free Fees Initiative

    The Free Fees Initiative covers the majority of full-time Level 8 programmes provided by Irish Institutes of Technology and Level 6, 7 and 8 programmes provided by Irish Universities and qualifying Colleges. Students intending to pursue a full-time Level 6 or 7 programme in an Irish Institute of Technology should contact the Undergraduate Fees office of the their intended institution for clarification on the eligibility criteria to qualify for “free fees” for their programme of study.

    Im not sure how thats relevant? The op would still have to pay the 2750 student contribution fee.

    But tuition fees and student contrubtion fees are separate. I havent seen any suggestion the op is ineligible for free tuition fees so I dont get the relevance?

    They applied for the grant and were refused and mentioned the fees only in the OP.

    I still dont understand the relevance.

    Free fees are free tuition fees.

    The grant has nothing to do with free tuition fees.

    The fee grant of fees only will pay the 2750 student contribution fee.

    The op never suggested they were ineligible for free tuition fees.

    Sorry for crashing I seem to be always doing this but don't want to be creating loads of Threads for one single question. What is the difference between the Free Fees Initiative and the SUSI Grant? I was looking on the SUSI Site today and just figured SUSI was the current procedure where ya apply for free fees, ie: SUSI instead of the "olden-days" County Council and V.E.C's.....

    If there is other Grants available, what is the difference between SUSI and that Grant?
