Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any android phone with better camera than iPhone 4s?

My friend is currently on the lookout for a used iPhone 4s mainly because of the quality of the camera. I'm not too up on all the different Android phones but suggested the newer ones like the HTC One, or S4 etc but these are too expensive for her. Are there any older but still high quality models out there that offer a superior camera out of the box (no custom roms etc required) for around €200?

Needs to be a factually better camera and not just fan boy better :D

2nd hand is of course an option and probably the route which will be taken to save money.

    Good luck getting a 4s for €200.

Yeah €200 is probably the low scale of what they are going for on adverts anyway, but was thinking an Android would be cheaper if there was one with a better camera?

A second hand Samsung Galaxy S II would have a better camera.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought the S2 was pretty old compared to the 4s? How would the S3 compare, or waht about the Motorola Razr i, I wonder? Or nexus 3 maybe? Any of them have better cameras than 4s?

iPhone is better than S3 and S2. Ive had all of them.

I'd say the Iphone 4S would be slightly better than the S2

    http://www.jrin.net/2011_11_01/iphone-4s-vs-samsung-galaxy-s2-camera-comparison

The S3 slightly better then the 4s

    Here some other comparisons...

TBH I don't think you are going to get a good iPhone 4s for 200 even 2nd hand. Probably a lot of Dodgy ones around to avoid too.

Interesting, seems the 4s does have a pretty strong camera reputation. What would be the cheapest android that is clearly miles ahead of the 4s that even iPhone devotees would agree on I wonder? I guess all the newer models kick its ass, but what about something a bit older I wonder? Seems jenno doesn't agree the S3 is better than the 4s? :o

    S3>iPhone 5
    S2>iPhone 4s

You're asking a different question now! There are certainly phones comparable to the 4s for 200, eg Nexus 4. Camera wise though you might have to look to China.

Sorry, I'm just referring to the camera in that question as this is the most important factor for my friend.

You could always check out the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc s for 149e on o2 pay as you go ,

Has one of the most impressive cameras on any phone
    8.1 mega pixel

Definitely better than the iPhone 4 camera and a lot cheaper too

Might be better than the iPhone 4 but not the 4s.

Also in another thread where people got the Samsung Note on special from O2 the phones weren't all sealed boxes.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=84824040&postcount=75

I'm tempted my self the Arc is so slim! But 149 is pricey for a single core android.

Picked an arc s up a few days ago and I'm pretty impressed so far camera wise 500 photos in 4 days all look pretty good on a large screen TV using the HDMI cable included .

    box was sealed and untouched

    And yes so slim

Not really pushed on the whole core thing mainly used as a phone and snapper, its an addition to my N7 that's used for everything bar talking and texts

I haven't yet my tv isn't compatible strangely enough ,

Must try it on a mates latest bravia TV

Just glad it came with the HDMI cable in the box

    * its hit and miss on my Xbox though , i just realised is DLNA compatible i can stream video ,music and photos to the Xbox from the arc s ,

I'm liking it even more now

Thanks again folks. Seems to be varying opinions on the S3 vs 4s as to which camera is better?

The arc I see is only capable of 720p recording which is a pity as she was hoping for 1080p.

What about the Razr i? I have it myself and am pretty impressed with the camera compared to my old HTC desire but I just don't know how it would compare to the 4s..

Hmm, unless she signed up to a 12m contract and got the HTC one? http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056967043

That's surely got a better camera, right?

I thought the One was meant to have a super camera, but then looking at this the Z seems a lot better.

    Decent deal though.

Yes the HTC one has the best camera of them all. She made the best choice, it's good to pay an extra premium for something that you know won't let you down.

Looks like she's going for the 4s after all, she's agreed to meet someone selling it for €270 :o

    I've a sony xperia S.....
    exceptional camera for everyday use...
    I think it's 12 mg pix

Seems like a fair price if it's in good condition.

I think the camera specs of the Razr I are on par with the 4s, but the 4s apparently has a much better lens which of course will make a difference.

Did a little test with my camera (razr i) against my friends 4s she bought and the 4s did come out better looking, we only tested indoors.

Same here, good camera but dissapointing on other aspects. But I like the fact that the camera has a shutter button which seems to be a dying trend among the phones.

Xperia S has the best camera of a cheap second hand Android.

I use an Xperia S in work for camera scanning and it is the only camera that works with certain barcode types that don't scan on most other Android/iPhone phones.

Everyone I know comments on how good the camera is. It is also very well supported in the Xda hacking community.

The XS has a great little sensor alright. FOV is a little narrow compared to some other handsets but thats not a huge issue for most.

    Handy for this thread.

GSM Arena have a great comparison tool

    http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=5364&idPhone2=5371&idPhone3=4212

Choose your three phones and then scroll around the big picture to see the quality.
