Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My missus is a wizz at all that stuff.
She knows the login & passwords for UB, AIB, Airtricity, Billpay.ie, Credit Union etc. off the top of her head.
She stays ahead of bills by so the account is still in credit when they fall due.
She saves in advance for house/home/health insurance & bashes them all down price wise.
Were she to drop dead in the morning I'd have trouble remember my own atm pin.

    Well done her.
Who holds the purse/wallet strings in your household & is it a bone of contention ?.

Me, but everything is direct debit and I'm not in debt, so I don't really do anything as it all works itself. I keep an eye on bills incase I get overcharged for something but otherwise it's all good

I print up the money myself and it's of very good quality.

Its only me and I do it myself. I'm pretty good at keeping track but now and then I realise how much I'm spending on things I don't need and it shocks me.

Earlier this year I stopped buying magazines and take out coffees and muffins after realizing the combined cost of upwards of 200 euro a month.

There are lots of cutbacks I still could make in my budget, but sometimes its the little treats in life that help you get through the tough times.

Thanks OP, you just reminded me to pay my credit card off!

I sort out the bills and have to make sure there is money (in cash) for all.
The other half honestly prefers it that way.
If she wanted any other way, it wouldn't be a problem.

Just me. I do a budget every month. It makes me slightly less hopeless with money. :D That and the direct debit into a savings account.

When me and the BF move it, it'll be me. I'm itching to help him with his finances, he doesn't budget and finds himself broke when he really shouldn't.

    I do ours,

I have an excel spreadsheet done up with everything carefully (and visually nicely I might add) mapped out in columns and rows colour coded and all. Incomings from wages, projected spend on known amounts like esb/gas/loans and a separate section for unknowns, a cushion if you will.

It's a very useful tool to keep track of your budget

Except...after filling out months of figures I pretty much open it once every now and then, glance at it and go http://bit.ly/wczAbd

I have an Excel sheet, and use the BOI budget planner just to remind me of any categories I might have missed. It's easy to forget something.

I keep mine in a wheelbarrow. People just help themselves to what I owe them.

I do all the budgeting for our house and I have to say (blowing my own trumpet) that I am very good at it,. especially in the last couple of years where I have:

Stopped both of us buying newspapers and magazines (use the net to get our reading requirement)

Download tv shows and movies from a netflix type site instead of renting them or subscribing to Sky

Scour the net for vouchers and discount coupons to use when shopping.

Go to ASDA once every 6 weeks to bulk buy the likes of rice, pasta, wine etc.

Go out only every other Saturday night now instead of the previously every Sat.

Do more cooking instead of buying ready meals

Bring lunch into work instead of buying lunch each day.

Set up an account purely for bills that both of us direct debit money from our own accounts each fortnight (when we get paid). So far (touch wood) we have enough to cover our bills each month and have a good bit left over in case of emergencies.

Me. I'm not brilliant but himself is hopeless. I manage the rent, the bills, all the food shopping and never run out of cash. He gives up his share, spends the rest, and asks for a loan of 50 quid. He will be supporting me for the next few months so I may very well starve to death or be evicted.

I do the budgeting in our house. We each have a direct debit into an budgeting account of €120 each per week. It sounds a lot but it pays for everything. Rent, esb, phone and broadband, sky, food and every 3 -4 months there's enough for home heating oil. There's always a little left over which we normally use at the end of the year for something like a new tv or BBQ. It works well for us.

I'm pretty careful when it comes to big spends and shop around for the best deals. I often use groupon type sites and coupons.

I bulk buy when I see a good deal. We have enough toiletries to last a year or two!

We have no debt, no loans or credit cards and were able to save €200 per week between us and still live a pretty good lifestyle. Neither of us are on huge money so I think for 2 under 30s were doing ok!

That doesn't sound like a lot at all!! You must have low rent :(

Large 3 bed house, it's a little old fashioned but well cared for. €500 per month. We live in a small town in Monaghan. I have to admit I laugh my ass off at the funny houses to rent on daft thread. I could never pay €800 per month to live in a shoe box in Dublin. Give me the countryside any day!

I meant standing order. Surely you could work out what I meant?
I can see that working well!

Why not? I'm organised enough with my finances and I wouldn't ever actually tell him how to manage his unless he asked me, it's just that he complains of being broke all the time, when there's actually a lot of ways he could make savings.
