Paying off Irish Credit Card from Abroad

    Hi,

    So I'm currently living in England and need to pay off my BoI credit card.

    The best way I can think of is:

    1) Transfer money from my English bank a/c to Irish one.
    2) Transfer money from Irish a/c to credit card a/c.

    The only downside to the above is that I might have to pay for the international transfer.

    Any other methods?

    Isnt there bank of Ieland branches in parts of England?

    Not really, the costs are (a) international transfer and (b) FX cost.

    (b) is unavoidable, so just try and minimise (a)

    Yes but they are only for business and corporate financing, they no longer work like an Irish branch does and handle day to day banking. They used to about ten years ago but not anymore.

    You should be able to wire money directly from your UK bank account to whatever bank account BOI accepts remittances for it's credit cards quoting your card number as a reference on the wire. Call BOI and ask for the IBAN etc.

    I'm living in the US and have US dollar and euro International American Express cards. I pay off both each month by wiring money to a Amex in NYC or Frankfurt. Works very well.

    Alternatively, you could do it the old fashioned way and send a euro bank draft in the post!
