    <snip>
She split up with the husband earlier this year, so unless she's got back with him. ??
I don't know if they are back together or not.

Some weeks she wears ring(s) on her wedding finger, other weeks she doens't wear ring(s) on her wedding finger. I'm beginning to think her marriage is over and she is only wearing ring(s) on her wedding finger

    A) To keep people guessing as to whether she is back with her hubby or not
    B) She wears them as accessories.

    I'll go with option B.

    Ah come on, who cares?

    We're all in this psy-op together.🤨

Jesus, what was that A-Team sketch all about? Derek Davis and the weatherman from TnaG and Baz etc. anyway it was awful shíte.

Wasn't watching the show, just flicking.

Seriously doubt if they'll give him another series.

    We're all in this psy-op together.🤨

Great show tonight, am disappointed it was the last show of this series and I really hope it get's another series.

Also, I reckon Mairead is back with her hubby as she was wearing her wedding/engagement ring(s) tonight and at one point she said "when I was single".

Her dress was nice as well. It's from Karen Millen, nice price tag of €325.

I actually enjoyed the show tonight, for a change:o

I thought the A-Team sketch was brilliant, I laughed all the way through. But being honest, it was probably too little too late, as before this I'd given up on it, unless there was absolutely nothing else on tv instead.

I think Neil Delamare is better than it though, hopefully that'll be it for now.

Herald made this big deal about that "question" Maguire asked Michael O Leary. Clearly it was edited.
From their story he paused for a moment before replying. Big anti climax that. Show is good in places I admit.
Did like the joke about who would have a million quid to buy a house in Drumcondra through.

It's back for a new series with new host Dermot Whelan.

    http://www.rte.ie/tv/audienceparticipation/republicoftelly.html

The Republic of Telly is back. Dermot Whelan is our new host to skewer everything in pop culture and take a wry look at what's happening throughout Ireland and the world. He'll be hosting a show filled with new comic talent and twisting tv till it breaks.

We've got celebrities like you've never seen them before - Daithí O'Sé as James Bond, Breffny Morgan rapping - gangsta style - and even Crystal Swing get down and do some Dirty Dancing.

The irrepressible Jennifer Maguire is back to insult the rich-and-famous and ask the questions that nobody else would have the balls to. She'll also be visiting a town near you looking to air everyone's dirty laundry and drag those skeletons out from inside your closet.

The Republic will be welcoming regular contributions from some of the brightest comics around. From the Rubber Bandits telling us about the real Ireland, Gearoid Farrelly reporting from the seedy underworld of illegal fake tanning, to Damian Clark investigating what people really get up to on a night out... And if you've any personal problems you need advice on, give us a shout - we'll answer them sensitively in our own, unique, way.

Music lovers won't want to miss our unique songs and videos, whether its original songs or our spin on the classics.either way, our version will be. unforgettable.

Oh, and we'll be taking apart Telly too.did we mention that already?

Dermot Whelan as a TV host, really??

Maybe I should pretend to be a bad comedian/bad radio presenter or just an irritating cúnt and then RTE will hire me.

Pretty much Pat Kenny's entire CV that is!

On topic tho, I have to say I will miss Neil Delamere as the host. I won't write off Dermot Whelan just yet, I'll wait until episode 3 before I do that! :P

It's a bit ridiculous.. It took Delamere a few episodes to get the hang of working off the autocue, and he eventually got pretty good at it... And it was a solid enough show, without being particularly groundbreaking...

And now they have to train in somebody else from scratch...

Dermot Whelan has presented TV shows on both RTÉ and TV3 so I don't think they should have to train him in..... hopefully.

so what you reckon then elmo, will he be better or worse than Delamere? Neil got the hang of it toward the end of the last season, and it was good enough show... comedy by numbers for sure, but still better than any of RTE's other 2009/2010 "comedy" offerings... (i.e. Fancy Vittles, Mattie, Val Falvey)

And did anybody on here go to the first show? Always someone on boards who attends these yokes..

Dermot Whelan is the least funny male "comedian" to ever appear on the panel so i wont be holding my breath.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 647 ✭✭✭Namabillion

Neil was pulling in about 125,000 viewers each week and the show was quite funny. Not a huge fan of Whelan though.

Awful show. Delamere was poor but I'm sure this new chap'll be even worse. I'll watch tonight just to see how bad it is. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,718 ✭✭✭✭JonathanAnon

Good start to the season, Whelan seems to be better at this than he is on The Panel, very natural with the autocue.. Took Delamere about four weeks to get used to it..

Jennifer Maguire with her usual childish double entendre.

good to see that Crystal Swing can take the mick out of themselves, its pretty well done that!

Exact word I was gonna use. Very childish... No need for all the extra contributors.. just review all the mistakes on RTE TV and radio, god knows you could get an hour out of Tubridy alone..

Harry Hill can get more laughs from 30 seconds with a knitted puppet than this program.

As has been said, why are the audience laughing and whooping like idiots ?

The first half of the show was pretty solid with a few funny moments, second half wwas car-crash stuff with the exception of the Rubberbandits.

Yea... it has improved but it's still fairly shíte though!:D

New presenter is much better than Delamare.

I thought the Star Wars bit was good...and the Limerick guy throwing the snail was funny.

True. Laughed out load at the Rubber Bandits vid in Limerick and for a RTE comedy to make me laugh I have to give credit where credit is due. The Jennifer stuff is pretty lame but still not as bad as the guy down the cave talking about the miners.

exactly what you said, never really watched it when delamere was on it so i said id have a look tonight. i laughed quite a bit i have to say, the rubber bandits at the map was very funny near the end. i'll tune in next week.

Okay, my breakdown of the show:

Dermot Whelan - was very good to be fair to him... very natural on the camera. was expecting him to have some teething problems (like Delamere did), but he was straight into it right from the first line.

Jennifer Maguire - never liked her.. they get her onto the red carpet just to ask offensive questions.. dislikable as a person and contributes nothing to the humour. Hopefully Mairead Farrell will be back in this spot for the rest of the series..

Brendan - Was fairly hit and miss last year. Some were very good to be fair.. but the sketch last nite used the most obvious of mining puns and of course the LCD Brian Cowan joke to finish..

Rubber Bandits - Didnt get this at all.. Putting on a mask and a funny accent doesnt make you funny imo.. Cant understand how so many people here thought they were funny..

Interested to hear what other people though..

1st half was ok, 2nd not so great. Too much Limerick "humour". Ah well, at least Jennifer was there to brighten things up ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I think it was improving last year. It is still quite funny, but I suggest not showing the audience.

How does she keep getting these gigs?
    Things she isn't:
    .Funny
    .Clever
    .Charismatic
    .Particularly easy on the eye.

:D I grew up in the same area of finglas as mairead farrell and she was always a snobby cow. My brother pulled her mate years ago in mcgowans in glasnevin and asked she him back to hers. Poor mairead had a face on her and I had to take her in my car and drop her home, she was chattin to me in the car and was honestly surprised I wasnt all over her. I let her out and she was waiting for me to give her an oul goodnite kiss. I blasted off back to mcgowans for a straggler. Honest, she's the most disinteresting, self hyped moron ive seen on TV. just as bad as that twat ray darcy!! Id also like to ad, that republic of telly in now taken over by that so called funnyman from the panel, with the poxy tusks for teeth. Dont know his name and thats how Id like it to stay. I dont rate any of them, andrew maxwell Vs eamon gilmore was funny thats it. Finally saw 2 minutes of it last week and couldnt stomach craig "im making a statement at the meteor awards doyle". He's **** an all!!! I remember going to the laughter lounge and seeing a few comedians, they were much better than all this tripe!! I wonder why dara O Breen (spells it wrong) left for greener pastures. Whats left??? tommy, I cant believe Im 50% of an act now cos im just too unfuuny tiernan, the bleedin big shouty head on him!! watched him dyin on stage a week or so ago in the UK!!!

he's so bad right, id rather sit through brendan O carroll in drag than pay to see that prick!! and thats saying something cos I loathe O carroll and have a terrible aversion to stubbly abnoxious cross dressers!!

    Really really bad.
Didn't watch the first series but decided to watch it last night because of all the hype.
Only laughed once, where the rubber bandits said something like "He can't even do something as simple as live in a house without getting a snail thrown at it".:pac:
