    Evening all,
My dad's car was stolen from his garden recently but the Gardi recovered it and brought it back to their station. The *****'s who took it broke the steering lock and damaged the wheels so it is not drivable now. Does my Dad need to pay for a tow truck to get it back home or is there another way? It smacks that he would have to pay to get his property back. The Gardi say the person who stole it is without means to pay for its return.
    thanks

It certainly is not the responsibility of the Guards to pay for it to be towed ( if that's what you're driving at ). If he has theft insurance then claim from his insurer who can try ( and probably fail ) to recover the costs from the person who stole it and damaged it.

    You do!

you're insurance policy might have a provision to allow you reclaim the costs but in the first instance, you do.

You might also find an element of compensation under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal. You can ring them and get a claim form. They might allow compensation for this matter.
