    Hi,
We ended up with 2 goldfish that were given to us 3 days ago. They are in a small tank without a pump or filter and an artificial plant. We were told they only live a short while so I reluctantly accepted. Now I have done a bit of reading online and have learnt that they can get very old and that the way we're currently keeping them will most likely kill them. I'm not ready to commit to becoming a serious fish keeper but I definitely do not want to watch the poor things die a slow death.
Does anybody in Dublin (preferably North Dublin, but I'm willing to travel) have a pond or something where goldfish are kept appropriately and would be willing to adopt 2 small goldfish purchased 3 days ago?
    I would be very grateful!
    Julia

They really do not "Live only for a short while".

Here is a picture of an adult, compared to a juvenile, as you see in the shops. http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00470/GB_BIGGEST_Goldfish_470456a.jpg

Great that you've done some reading.

I have in the past returned fish to Seahorse Aquariums. Typically give you 50% credit, but i'd ring ahead first.

    Kudos for the sentiment.

Any decent pet shop will take them off your hands.

Don't bring them back to the petshop as they will only end up in a little bowl again! Advertise them on adverts.ie,and you might get someone with a big tank to take them.I rehomed 4 goldfish on there to a fella with a pond, but I think its too cold to put fish into a pond now.

If you are going to bring them to a shop, but Kukey is right that they'll probably end up in a bowl again, call first because not all shops will take them if they don't have space to quarantine them.

If I were you I'd get a second hand 60L tank on Adverts and keep them a couple of months until the weather warms up then rehome them to someone with a pond. Then you can either switch to a tropical setup or resell the tank.

Would you have a picture of the fish? Some are suited to ponds and some are not.
If they're single-tailed, they can go into a pond in a few months - so you could keep them til then, or you have time to dig a pond :)

I have a pond and will rehome them whenever you want.
