Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Poor fella.
A BODY was discovered by workmen unloading a bin truck in Dublin today.

Gardai are investigating after the body of a man in his 30s was found at a waste recycling facility.

Officers said they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the find but it is believed the man was not a victim of foul play.

The body was discovered by staff at Panda Waste Management who were unloading a waste truck at Ballymount Road in Tallaght shortly before 9am.

“The body was found covered in rubbish. Gardai do not know how long the man was there at this stage and are in the process of tracking the movements of the bin truck,” a source said.

Investigators are probing if he was a homeless man who was sleeping in an industrial-sized wheelie bin which was emptied into the truck.
The body of the man, believed to be from Eastern Europe, remained at the scene this morning which was sealed off pending the arrival of Dr Michael Curtis, the Deputy State Pathologist.

A senior source explained: “We will not know if this man was the victim of foul play until a post mortem is carried out but the early indications are that this was a personal tragedy.
“The man is aged in his 30s and is a foreign national from Eastern Europe – gardai are now trying to get in touch with his family.

Very sad end to a life, most probably headed here to find work and better hois life, poor fella most probably fell on hard times and was forced to sleep rough as a result.

At this stage it looks like he may have been sleeping in the bin when it was collected and emptied into the compactor lorry.

A family somewhere are about to, or already have received some very heart breaking news.

A tragic and undoubtedly horrible way to go.

    RIP

That's awful. didnt think that could happen. surely they would notice him falling out of the bin - if he was sleeping in it, he would have presumably been atop the rubbish and not underneath it?

If you were sleeping in a bin, would you not hear the lorry pulling up/feel it being moved into position? Either way, sorry way to pass away, must have been so panicked.

    Possibly alcohol induced sleep?

Trying not to be too sterotypical here btw.

Could have died of natural causes overnight. Think this happened before in London or some uk city, fairly regular occurrence actually I would imagine.

Would have thought the bin may have seem to be heavy to the bin man or was it the large industrial bins.
    still very sad, RIP.

Oh, true I never considered that. As mentioned before, he could have been dead over night. When the binmen empty the bins, do they open the lids before pulling them into place, or let gravity open the lid once tilted?

They attach the bin to a lifting mechanism on the back of the lorry then push a button to activate it so it's entirely possible they didn't see the man

So easy to happen if you're unfortunate enough to be using them to sleep in, You most certainly would drag cardboard or carpets etc over you for warmth and I have never seen any Bin man checking loads before being tipped, RIP to the man.

If you were sleeping in a bin...

    What could possibly go wrong...

    Tragic news..poor man, RIP.

It was a large industrial bin, I don't think whoever collected the bin would have noticed the weight. They're trying to establish if he died while sleeping in the bin or if he died at the facility.

It depends on the truck, some can pick up the bin and dump it into the back with controls from the driver seat so they'd never see what was in the bin.

years ago the owner of Hunters Bar in Bangor was murdered and his body dumped in a wheelie bin.

there were allegations of drugs gangs etc.....

apparently he was found over about half an acre after he'd been through the grindy uppy mechanism in the back of the truck......
