Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Regionalised channels on HDTV

Would it be possible to have a setup wherby a regionalised channel (like say BBC1) transmits all its national programmes in HDTV but only uses SD for the regional stuff and (in order to save bandwidth) arranges for all existing recievers to automatically switch to say the London region during networked programmes (and back to the appropriate region during local opt outs) ?

The point of all this would be rather than wasting bandwidth on 22 seperate versions of BBC1 during networked programming have the surplus bandwidth/transponder capacity used for Hi-Def .

Would the switching necessary to make this happen (invisibly to the viewer) be possible using current digibox software ?

id say the bbc will only have 4 hd channels bbc1 2, 3, 4 and the regional ones will all be sd. untill hdtv starts taking over then regional hdtv channels will be broadcast

i can imagine a scenario that says. "if you would like to see this programme in HDTV, switch to channel *** now"

I don't know how easy this is to do properly on SKy equipment. At the moment, for example, viewers with hearing problems have to switch to London ITV1/CH4 in order to get audio described programmes.

If there was a more dynamic way that bandwidth could be allocated, then the BBC could save on transponder usage by sharing English regional programming with interactive services. It certainly seems a waste to have upteen different regions showing exactly the same thing apart from regional news and the occasional regional programme.
