Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Always liked Star Trek 2. Favourite moment is when Kirk after calling the Enterprise says I don't like to lose. You just know Khan is going down. Max.

Reading this thread makes me realise I've missed out on a lot. I've never seen DS9 and usually only saw TNG on reruns without any clue as to what season I was watching (apart from uniform or hair changes!).

    The Picard/Q/Hamlet bit, wow.

3e were showing DS9, could still be, keep an eye out on the tv guide so you can catch a few episodes and then realize it's absolute gold before rushing off to Play where you can pick up each season for around €14(ish)...

Sorry, got caught up in the thought of a fresh DS9 viewing :D

The episode "Devil's Due", when Picard is questioning how Aurdra saved the planet.. the build up to - and when he finally asks her,
"Did you not even pick up one piece of thrash!?"

His dissection of religion in general is brilliant in that whole scene, commenting on how people attribute human achievements to deities...

Also the episode "Best of Both Worlds", when they first see the assimilated Picard is particularly chilling.. as is that scene mentioned above in "Parallels" with the "Other Riker" from the Borg infested dimension

Captain Kirk V The Gorn = Classic Star Trek moment :D

    PART ONE

    PART TWO

  • Registered Users Posts: 829 ✭✭✭OldeCinemaSoz

My favourite Star Trek moment is in THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE
where Commador Dekard gets the upper hand on the planet killer
despite being pulled into it's maw on The Enterprise while Scotty get some photons packed and delivered on the dead and dying ship....

"Good boy, Jim, together we can kill this thing!"

A wonderful episode. Delivers the goods everytime I watch it. Classic.

Bear with me on this one....

One of my fave Star Trek moments is in Galaxy Quest

Nerdy FanBoy (Via Subspace communicator/the interweb): "Yes, of course I know its only a TV show (blah blah blah) ....."
    Tim Allen/Kirk: "Its all real!"
Nerdy FanBoy: "I KNEW IT !!!!!!"

It gets me every time :D

(While Galaxy Quest is (obviously) a parody and not without its faults, it's a loving parody...)

And just happenes to be on TG4 now. Picture quality is terrible though. Time for the DVD

"Let's get the hell out of here!!!"

The look on Kirk's face says it all. TOS dosen't get
    much better than this.

Been thinking about this today. In DS9, in the episode where there is an attempted military takeover of starfleet the Defiant is on its way to earth only to be attacked by a modified excelsior class ship. Chief O'Brien asks Worf, What do we do now?

    Worf says, We fight.

Star Fleet vs Star Fleet, he probably didn't like the idea so asked the acting captain.

I know that boss. I just think its a great moment. A pure Worf moment.

Garak and his witty remarks!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 916 ✭✭✭1hnr79jr65

Siskos narrative of the episode "in the pale moonlight".

For me the best episode of star trek ever, the seriousness of it, the deviance and the sheer brilliance of garak thrown into the mix. And lets not forget senator vreenak "its a FAKE!"

You just can't beat Garak, even when he's being serious there's an underlining joke in this actions.

Weyoun has some fantastic little subtle scenes and lines. Always thought he was a great counterpoint to Garak in many ways.

Weyoun: "I'm not sure how much faith I have in this, what did he call it?"

    Demar: "Pah-wraths."

Weyoun: "Pah wraiths and prophets...all this talk of Gods strikes me as nothing more than superstitious nonsense."

Demar: "You believe that the founders are Gods, don't you?"

    Weyoun: "That's different."

Demar: *laughs dismissively* "In what way"?

Weyoun: *spoken in a dead serious statement of fact voice* "The Founders are Gods."

Agreed, Jeffrey Combs is epicly good. Brunt, Weyoun & Shran, the man is brilliant

I know that another Star Trek actor (Brad Dourif) played Grima Wormtongue, in The Lord Of The Rings, but I always thought that Combs would have been amazing. Especially considering that he had previously worked with Peter Jackson

Don't forget "detective" in Far Beyond the Stars ;) He's a true legend alright. He elevated every Star Trek episode he was ever in - especially the Enterprise ones.

Weyoun was one of the best characters in DS9. Really well written character, and it's great that it was written specifically for Jeffrey Combs.

One from Enterprise that had me laughing, Season 4 Episode 17 Bound.

T'Pol - A Vulcan science vessel surveyed the planet over 50 years ago. The file states that it's an M-class world with a flourishing ecosystem. No intelligent life.

    Archer - Sounds promising.

T'Pol - They did report one distinctive feature that bears mentioning.

    Archer - And that is?

T'Pol - A species of flying reptile, some reportedly over 200 meters long. They're also said to breathe fire, (Camera moves to Mayweather and Reed, both with odd looks on their faces) There's been lingering questions over the accuracy of this report.

Love the orchestral nod to Goldsmith's "Klingon Battle" when the Klingons decloak, from the start of The Motion Picture.

Got to hand it to Andreas Katsulas as well, he was another great actor when covered in two hours of make up.

Not quite a scene from the show, but i watched this today and thought it was excellent. Going to watch the episode later again, as it's a fantastic show.

Fantastic episode, really really good & Trek in its truest form.

Also proof that Brooks is human & can come down to our level, based on his interviews. Shame he couldn't engage with us during Shatners film :(

I remember watching this on VHS the first time with a friend and the two of us almost wet ourselves with laughter. Spent ten minutes just rewinding and watching over and over again.

So going into Burger King to do that!

In Purgatory's Shadow has a few good scenes.

    Worf - What about Garak?
Sisko - I want him back, too. I suppose I don't have to tell you to keep a close eye on him?
Worf - At the first sign of betrayal, I will kill him. But, I promise to return the body intact.
    Sisko - I assume that's a joke.
    Worf - We will see.

And then there's the longer and funnier scene between Worf and Garak about joining Starfleet, cracks me up every time I watch it.

Quark lugging a big box of Gold Pressed Latinum through a crawl way as DS9 was being evacuated...

    Bashir - "Hurry up!
Quark - "I'm not leaving all of my belongings, my personal possesions & family mementos...thats why this case is so heavy"
Bashir - "It's full of Gold Pressed Latinum and you know it!"
Quark - "Who told you that!?"
Bashir - "Your mother! When you were born."

    :D:D

I'm only on Season 2, where Quark is trying to acquire 100k vats of Tulaberry Wine. Miles & miles of DS9 to go

"You have my word.....you'll never know what hit you."

    From Garak, that's creepy.

I also really like the scene in Profit and Loss where Garak threatens Quark in his tailor shop, but I can't find a video of it. Let the IMDB quote-o-rama begin!
Garak: I've been in this business a long time, and I know there's nothing worse than following the wrong trend. Now, you're a smart fellow, with your own inimitable sense of style. Perhaps... you should mention this to your lady friend. I'd hate to see her fall victim to fashion.
Quark: Would you like to explain that?
Garak: She's chosen to associate herself with some rather flamboyant companions. It would be a tragedy if she got in the way, when her friends go out of fashion.

    ______
Garak: You'd be surprised how detrimental a poor choice of fashion can be. Take this dress: it may be all the rage now, but in a very short time it can become tiresome, an affront to the eyes. Certain people might even think it's objectionable. And then...
    [he tears the dress apart]
    Garak: ...nothing but rags.

    ______
Quark: If anyone tries to harm her, they're gonna have to deal with me!
Garak: And what are you going to do? Short-change them at the dabo table?
    ______

Just rewatched TNG season 7's little gem Lower Decks

    Ten Forward

It's crew evaluations time and Ensign Lavelle is at a table with his friends discussing his belief that Riker, the man deciding his fate across the room, has taken a dislike to him. One of his friends tells him that Riker is from Canada, a trait shared by Lavelle's Grandfather. His friends suggest he should go strike up a conversation with Riker if only to dispell his paranoia. Lavelle gathers himself and crosses the room to the bar where Riker is sitting and attempts to establish a rapport with the Commander using this common Canadian heritage.

    Lavelle
    Riker

    "Good evening sir"

Riker nods to Lavelle and returns to his padd.
A few seconds pass and Lavelle is still standing beside him.

"Something I can do for you?"

"No Sir, I just came to get another drink"

Riker looks at the full glas Lavelle is holding

"Is there something wrong with that one?"

"No, actually I ah...what are you having?"

    "Trakian Ale"

    "Good choice"
to bartender "I'll have one too"
    ...
"My Grandfather was Canadian you know?"

    "Really?"

    "Aren't you one too"

    Riker looks confused
    "A Grandfather?"

Lavelle laughs nervously and a little forcefully trying to ease the tension
    "No, Canadian Sir, Canadian"

"No I grew up in Alaska"

    Levelle's face drops
"Oh, well...they both get a lot of snow"

    "...yeah"

"It was good talking to you sir"

    "Yeah"

    *Lavelle hastily exits the room*

Bartender places drink next to Riker. "Your ale Ensign"

Riker...glances up from his pad, shakes his head slightly and smirks.

I always really liked Lower Decks and thought it was one of the best episodes of the final season. Conceptually it was probably a case of "oh we've never done an episode from the POV of the redshirts", but I still think it was really well written. It was also another one of those episodes that made you appreciate what a great character Picard was. He acts like an asshole toward Sito, but it turns out he was the one who requested she be stationed on the Enterprise because he wanted to make sure she got a second chance.

Watched a DS9 season 2 ep today called The Wire. It's a Garak based episode where his anti-torture implant breaks down & we get to see some serious Garak based character development.

Andrew Robinson does an absolute materclass in this episode, as with any others he's in tbh.

Couldn't agree more, you should try a Garak only episodes run through of DS9.
