Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. There are some candidates who held "public meetings" which I think is a valid substitute for going door to door.

The socialist party were out in Ongar tonight with the loud speaker asking people specifically to vote for them. Which, had I not already voted would have put me further off them

    From Adrian Kavanagh on Twitter.
Tally figures for Castleknock at present have FF 30%, FG 21%, GP 12%, SF 8%, LAB 6%, OTH 13%
Looking as if Fianna Fail doing well in Castleknock at #LE14 with Jack Chambers polling well. Good vote also for @rodericogorman of Greens
Unless they do better in the final group of boxes in Castleknock, it looks as if the Labour seat is lost there #LE14

FF at 30% .. what short memories we have!

More than slightly disgusted about Chambers showing so well. However, I can't see him being transfer friendly

Four AAA candidates was just ridiculous, but I guess they were hoping the Coppinger bandwagon would drag them along with her.

Castleknock. Chambers (FF) and Treacy (SF) elected. Quota:1749. Roderic and Loftus will get in as well. The transfers of Chambers and Treacy will be important. Shocking performance by sitting councillor Waine, outpolled by his running mate.

Its a farce to be honest. If SF or the Socialists wins the By-election will a candidate that finished down the order in Mulhuddart get the Fingal seat instead if the relevant candidate wins in that election as well?

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Yes, if one of them is nominated as Coppinger or Donnelly's alternative. The same goes for McGuinness as he's standing in both as well.

Fingal, Mulhuddart, second count: 1,023 of Donnelly SF's 1896 surplus bring his running mate Lukusa (353 first pref) over the line.

Dublin is a big area. Have you thought that they might actual live there ? They can get the methadone at a chemist.

No one elected on the second count in Castleknock. O'Gorman is nearly there, the quota is 1749. FG should get a least two, FF should gets Mags and maybe McManus as well depending on transfers. Walsh has the final spot at the moment but I can not see him holding onto it.

    Loftus, Eithne (FG) 1144

If a winner in the council elections gets voted into the dail can they stay on the council, or are their votes transferred?

They pick someone to replace them, so Coppinger will pick one of the AAA candidates in the area to replace her.

so some unknown who no one ever voted for gets to make decisions that affect the rest of us (and get paid for it),

replacement should be next highest on ballot sheet.

Where have you been for the last five years? Joe Higgins did that not once but TWICE!! He ran in the locals and Europeans in 2009, got elected in both...took Europe we got an unelected councillor. Then as an MEP he ran in the general election, got that seat and we got an unelected MEP.

It's my strongly held belief that finish your term in office before you run for another role. I certainly would never give someone two chances to represent me. Yet Donnelly, Coppinger, O'Gorman and McGuinness (and some of the Independents) all featured on two ballot papers yesterday.

To be fair, they have all completed their terms in the council. It's just unusual that we have a by- election at the same time and a few of them have gone for both. I'm also strongly against politicians buggering off to something better and their constituents being left with someone they never voted for, but today the question is whether people should be allowed go for two jobs at the same time.

13th Count Castleknock. That should be that. I presume there will be a recount due to the closeness between Kavanagh and Martin.

13th Count. Dennison elected. Nolan would still have to be favourite for the last spot even though her lead is two votes.
