Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi folks,

daughter looking for a Xmas projector. Not looking for anything star studded - just basic. Wants to plug in her laptop for watching films in bedroom. Was gonna pick up an electric screen for her bedroom wall, ceiling mount a projector and bury required cables thru attic and behind stud partition.

€400 ish. I know this is light years from quality tech, but once the image is good enough, she'll be happy. Something like this perhaps ?

TBH it's hard to know with those projectors as generally it's really a case of getting what you pay for. Might look ok on still images but fall to pieces with motion. Hopefully someone will be along that has some experience.

The good thing with Amazon is you can buy it and send it back so it might be worth buying very soon so you have time to find something else if it doesn't work out.

If you can push the boat out you could get a decent budget projector from Richer Sounds and maybe a screen would only be €150 extra.

That or you could buy used form Adverts, AV Forums etc.

    I've a Benq W1070
It's fantastic and happily used as a replacement for the tv (even during the day) but it's nearly double your budget.

Given it's not for sitting room use, brightness etc. is going to be a lot more controllable but how "big" do you want to go? If it's not going to project much bigger than a tv you might be better bargain hunting for a tv.... especially if you factor in most projectors have terrible speakers (no idea how good or bad my one is as it's always been hooked up to a surround sound).

Absolutely agree with you guys. Trying to push her towards the TV - selling the bonus of TV channels, no speaker requirement, guaranteed fluid playback , i'd still hook up fixed HDMi facility for her laptop, chromecast, the lot. She's fixed on this projector idea, as "her friend has one and its great!" You know yourself.
