Family tickets for public transport in Dublin

    Why can't you buy a family ticket that will cover you for the bus, luas and Dart for two adults and two children or three children. Yesterday, we traveled from Sandycove to Museum with a change in Connolly on the Dart and Luas and it cost about 16 euro return. We also had to pay for the Dart and luas individually which was a bit of a pain. The ticket machines at Dart stations don't even sell child tickets, so we had to pay at Connolly. We told staff at Connolly about this and he said its because adults tend to board trains after purchasing a childs ticket.
    Also, the Leap card wouldn't be very practical because its normally used by an individual to travel

    there are a few options for unlimited travel on Dublin Bus services and also Bus and rail tickets for 2 adults and up to 4 children Here

    From the Irish Rail website there is no family Day ticket available which covers just rail and Luas.

    From the Luas site there is no information on Family tickets at all.

    Your best option is probably the Dublin Bus Family one day short hop ticket for €16.20 which covers all dublin bus services including expresso and all short hop dart and suburban rail services.

    There is an Irish Rail family ticket for dart and suburban rail only but for some reason they don't advertise it online or anywhere else.

    The one day family ticket costs €15.70, for an extra 50cent you can have unlimited bus travel on all Dublin Bus services except the airlink and nightlink. Maybe this is why Irish rail chose not to advertise it?

    So it looks like there is still no Luas Family ticket. Irish Rail have a family all day pass 'rail only' http://www.irishrail.ie/fares-and-tickets/dart and Dublin Bus have a 1-day Family Pass available on Leap Card http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Fares--Tickets/Tickets/2-Journey-Daily-Weekly/Other-Tickets/ but nothing for Luas

    Or am I missing something?

    Luas are run by a separate company. Perhaps they have not opted to go in behind a family pass with Dublin Bus and Irish Rail though they have done so with some single user tickets. Maybe drop an e mail off to the NTA or Luas and ask them.

    There has never been a family LUAS ticket, but really there is no excuse for not having one anymore, nor a bus/rail/LUAS combination.

    Get onto info@nationaltransport.ie (National Transport Authority) as they dictate the ticketing in Dublin.
