With the 50th pick in the 2015 Boards Mock Draft, the Houston Texans select:

Bernardrick McKinney - ILB - Mississippi State

    5d9e3727c7c5789ffe4c03019d9c8db2-img1.jpg

Researching the Texans once I had been given them in the 2nd round, I figured that they had some key needs in this draft, specifically - QB, ILB, WR and they could do with getting better at CB. Heffo got us sorted at the CB position with the (IMO) very nice pick of Marcus Peters and there's no QB worth considering at this spot, so that left me deciding between an ILB and a WR.

I decided to go with McKinney for a few reasons. Firstly, he's the highest ranked player in what I feel is a position of need for the Texans on my board at this point which is ideal and ticks a lot of boxes. Secondly, I feel the Texans are more desperate for ILB help than WR help and thirdly, I feel there's far greater WR depth available in the subsequent rounds in comparison to ILB's.

The Texans best option at ILB at the moment is Brian Cushing, which is more of a problem than anything IMO. He's not the player he once was - for example, PFF ranked him 45th among 60 qualifying ILB's in run defense for the 2014 season (per Tania Ganguli), he also missed 12 tackles which ranked just outside the top 10 in his position (per Rotoworld/PFF) and has already had THREE surgeries this offseason. He's also overpaid now and per Over The Cap, the Texans can start to save money by cutting him before the June deadline in 2016. If he doesn't drastically improve, it's extremely likely that they will. Add to this their next best options at the position are Akeem Dent (who has only once started more than 7 games in a season), Mike Mohamed and Justin Tuggle, and you can see how McKinney could help.

McKinney comes into the draft after registering a total of 244 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks in his collegiate career. He's a big, long guy who can cover a lot of distance in a hurry. He is a very physical player who is best against the run and is similar to a heat-seeking missile when he sees the ball in front of him. He has superb speed and has shown on tape that he's more than adept at chasing down a ballcarrier from behind too (one sack on Mr. Manziel springs to mind!). He's also versatile and can play OLB which may be a trait that intrigues further.

McKinney is coming off a relatively weak and at best indifferent combine performance which has hurt his stock. There's also certainly question marks over how his coverage skills will translate to the NFL (he has enough to get by IMO) and he can also be a step too late on occasions which will get you beat in the pros, but I see enough from him to think there's value in the middle of the 2nd round. I can see him becoming a very solid, if unspectacular ILB who has a lengthy career in the NFL.

The Philadelphia Eagles are on the clock.

With the 52nd Pick of the 2015 Boards Mock Draft

    Philadelphia-Eagles-Logo.gif
    The Philadelphia Eagles Select

    Eric Rowe - CB/S - Utah
    jpeg

Ok so in the first round I took Safety Landon Collins. Again considering that pick may be null and void if Chip trades up for Mariota this pick will make even more sense. But I feel the eagles secondary is horrific and i think the 2 first round picks would be best spend on Collins & Rowe

I know there is a case for picking a pass rusher or an O-lineman - especially for the left side if they decide to release or trade mathis(apparently bills looking at him). But i think the thoughts of getting a top 5 corner in the draft at 52 is too good to miss out on!

Rowe is a Chip sort of player - impressive, tall athelete. The fact that he was a Safety and moved to Corner will be huge appeal to the Eagles as they have issues at both positions and he will help massively. Although he only played 2014 at corner his combine and pro day were impressive and he has the ability and speed to make big plays for eagles this season - and they badly need to improve that secondary

The Cincinatti Bengals are on the clock

With the 53rd pick in the NFL Mock Draft the Cincinnati Bengals select.....

    Cincinnati_Bengals_black_wordmark_1997-2003.png

Jake Fischer, Offensive Tackle, Oregon, 6' 6" 300lbs

    0ap1000000243630.jpg

The three main tackles on the roster are Andrew Whitworth 33, Eric Winston 31 and Andre Smith 28. It's time to inject some youth.

The Bengals need extra help to get them somewhere in the playoffs so how about a future franchise left tackle who is a superb run blocker. Yes, a superior run game will help the Bengals greatly

Fischer is a versatile player and has played right guard, right tackle and left tackle. As left tackle he protected Marcus Mariota's blind side and anchored a line that left the PAC 12 in rushing (273.5 yards per game average)

He is a little light compared to the league average for tackles but that can always be rectified and I'm hoping his superior agility will help in pass protection and also the run game. OC Hue Jackson selects a run heavy offense and taking responsibility off Andy Dalton can only mean good things

Whitworth was a good servant but is surely close to retirement and I see Fischer seeing some snaps this year in Hue Jackson's run heavy schemes and then taking over as left tackle in 2016.

nollaig and the Detroit Lions are on the clock.....

With the 54th pick the Detroit Lions select DT Michael Bennett THE Ohio State
Detroit proved last year they really are a BPA team in the draft taking the so far underperforming Eric Ebron 10th.
I saw Bennett play a few times last season and everytime he showed up.He will definitely help the Lions vs. the run now Suh is a Dolphin. Just dont expect him to get you many sacks.
I also gave PJ Williams a long look here but the Tmz reports scared me.

With the 55th pick in the 2015 boards.ie NFL Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select:

    Eli Harold, OLB, Virginia Tech

    eliharold.0.0.PNG

I really wanted to draft a QB here but at this point in the draft I saw no value at that position. I like Bryce Petty but not at this point. The Canadian kid from South Alabama is interesting, but he's even rawer than Logan Thomas. I don't think I've ever seen footwork as bad as Bridge's but he's got a quick release and a tremendous arm but I'm not sure his football IQ can handle just yet. On another slightly more relevant side note I really like the Gurley pick, if Ellington can stay someway healthy those two could really supplement each other at RB.

So to my Pick Eli Harold - I'm actually really surprised he's still here at this point as I've seen him as one of the top 30 players in this draft on some draft expert projections.

Despite the Virginia football program averaging under four wins per season and being generally pants the past three years, the Cavaliers' defense has several intriguing prospects, most notably Harold, who decided to declare early for the 2015 NFL Draft. After serving as a freshman backup, he started every game the last two seasons, combining for 36.5 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks over his career.
Harold, who lined up as a defensive end and linebacker in Virginia's multiple 3-4 scheme, is a good-sized athlete with movement skills and if there was one word to accurately describe his game, it would be "active." He doesn't always have a plan and needs to better marry together his athleticism, power and technique, but defensive coordinators simply need to give him direction and then wind him up and let him loose. His combine 40 yard time was decent and his 1.56s 10 yard split really shows off his burst from the line. The guy is slightly ~slight but has time to put on mass and improve his run stopping abilities. I really believe at this point in the second round Harold can and will be a steal.

    Bottom line from NFL.com

BOTTOM LINE Explosive, leggy outside linebacker who has surprising strength at the point of attack, and the hands and length to become an outstanding edge-setter. Harold's burst upfield to threaten the edge is pro caliber and his ability to bend the corner at a 45-degree angle creates potential for him to become a quality pass rusher from either outside linebacker spot in a 3-4.

PM to next franchise GM on it's way.

    Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State

    101814-fbc-asu-stanford-damarious-randall.vnocropresize.940.529.medium.23.jpg

Again another pick on defence for the Steelers, losing Ike Taylor & Troy Polamalu they seek to replace both through the draft with the next best safety on the board.

    The Carolina Panthers Select

    Nelson-Agholor.jpg

    NELSON AGHOLOR WR USC

    Resoning:

The Panthers need to help out Cam Newton, that started last year with the selection of Kelvin Benjamin and continued with the first round pick of an OT in this draft. The defense is already well stocked and at TE Greg Olsen has been productive and will be servicible for a few years.

The Panthers go WR here and Agholor is one of the best remaining. I was hoping some other guys would drop but Agholor is a good pick up at this point, he's only 6 ft tall but will work mainly in the slot. He's quick, running a 4.42 40 at the combine, and has good hands. On of his strengths mentioned in the NFL scouting report is his ability to get open for a scrambling QB. Ok, sold.

    With the 58th pick the Baltimore Ravens pick;

Pj Williams - cornerback - Florida state

I think this was a fairly obvious selection. To me this pick fits both need and value (a key part of the Ravens draft philosophy). I think come the real draft the Ravens may be tempted to go corner then WR as there is a real drop off once the top corners as gone whereas the wide receivers are a deep talented bunch.

However as this draft fell the way it did I was delighted to pick up Williams (not surely he ll really get this far unless the DUI hurts him more than I'd expect).

Williams is fast and talented. He has the ability to grow into a number 1 shut down corner.

I had a look at Williams teammate Darby too for this pick, but ultimately I feel he ll only ever be a number 2 corner.

(If a mod could throw in a picture somewhere there I'd appreciate it)

With he 59th pick the Denver Broncos select...

    Clive Walford, TE, Miami.

    clive1.jpg

Basically after a DT and pass rusher, Tight End is the biggest need for the Broncos. There isn't much value at the former with so many gone off the board already in the first two round and the Broncos already got some help for Von Miller in the first. Had a feeling I'd be drafting a TE in this position and the standout after Maxx Williams was Walford.

If Broncos were looking for a direct replacement in terms of catching for Julius Thomas then Devin Funchess may enter the equation but with the Broncos looking to use a zone blocking scheme next year - Walford fits the position perfectly with his ability to beat defenders with his hands and his size. He's a solid pass catcher and averaged 15.4 yards per reception last season for Miami and had a standout game against Florida State when he had 127 yards and a TD despite having an awful start that game when being stripped of the ball on his first reception.

Will send PM to next pick.

With the 61st pick of the board's mock draft 2015 the Indianapolis Colts select centre Ali Marpet from hobart, [PHhttp://thebillsofbuffalo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/hobart-ali-marpet-480x400.jpgP][/PHP]

Ali clocks in at 6 foot 4 and 307 pounds, has good foot work and strentgh needs work on his stance against blitz as he found himself on occasion off balance, he can do a good job on run blocking but he protects the qb gave up 0 sacks in 2014, yes zero, the main concern early in the season would be his adapting to the faster pace of the but a bit of time on the practice squad and work with the oline coach's he could be a real steal,[https://uk.video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A2KLqIrP2DZVSGcAZK2c3olQ;_ylu=X3oDMTByZWc0dGJtBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDdmlkBHZ0aWQDBGdwb3MDMQ--?p=ali+marpet&vid=d81d674393ad33cdc2b1f41f441d5962&l=7%3A39&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DWN.uFE1jvXvTKsMyydbSaRepA%26pid%3D15.1&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DLwCD4Lcx1ms&tit=ALI+MARPET+OFFENSIVE+TACKLE%2FDEFENSIVE+END+HIGHLIGHT+REEL&c=0&sigr=11bjlk94o&sigt=11ofb3agu&sigi=11vthe7n6&age=1296599804&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av&fr=yhs-avg-fh_lsonsw&hsimp=yhs-fh_lsonsw&hspart=avg&tt=b]

With the 62nd pick in the NFL draft the Greenbay Packers select

    TCU_tcu1_large.jpg

    OKLAHOMA_ST_TCU_FOOTBALL_40353029-2.jpg

There is no point trying to be too clever here. Needs matches value very nicely with Dawson at this point. His on field production is outstanding although his combine performance raised questions about both his athletic ability and his attitude.

    NFL.com strengths and weaknesses

    Strengths

Flexible, agile athlete with good lower-body build. Outstanding instincts. Sees what is happening on the field and senses what is about to happen. Always plays downhill, attacking line of scrimmage. Second-level ghost who is a nightmare for offensive linemen to engage. Instantly unlocks hips and bursts to chase outside. Smooth lateral movement with ability to change direction and mirror running back into the hole. Gets skinny and slips blocks. When blocked, doesn't stay wired to blocks. Chases sideline to sideline. Excels in pass coverage, allowing just 35.7 percent of passes against him to be completed. Tough play demeanor. Plays hard and practices hard.
    Weaknesses

Not a wrap-up tackler and needs work in finishing blocks. Freelances and sometimes lacks discipline to maintain assignments. Instincts of a middle linebacker but likely too small for the position. Has to win with speed over power as a blitzer. Scouts are very worried about his personal character and say he's not beloved within the program. Questions have been raised about his commitment to the process. Not a film studier.

I'll stick up the Hawks pick shortly.

With the 63rd pick in the NFL draft the Seattle Seahawks select

    oregon_ducks_by_creativitygraphics-d3556oe.png

    oregon_hroniss_grasu.jpg

With the trade of Max Unger and the retirement of 26 year old Steve Schilling this is now a big need for the Hawks. Grasu is a very experienced player having started 52 games at centre for Oregon.

    Strengths and weaknesses from NFL.com

    Strengths

Takes on challenges up front. Willing to battle against bigger, stronger nose guards. Has big hands and is tough at the point of attack with good functional strength. Loves to play and is a willing worker, according to personnel men. Reestablishes hands into proper placement in pass pro if defender gets hands into his chest. Can pull and hit targets in space. Adjusts to mirror and engage linebackers on second level. Consistently gets to reach blocks.
    Weaknesses

Doesn't utilize length effectively. Uses inconsistent hand placement. Handles power players pretty well at point of attack but tends to lose balance when engaging the same players on the move. Marginal acceleration around the corner when asked to pull. Not a leverage winner in short-yardage situations. Needs additional weight.

With the 64th pick of the Boards mock draft, the New England Patriots select

    Duke+Johnson+South+Florida+v+Miami+mkVsursRpygl.jpg

    Duke Johnson, RB, Miami.

The Patriots have lost a few players in this position over the off season and its an area that will need to be addressed early on. Johnson will contribute immediately in both the running and passing games. While he is not considered a dominant between the tackles runner, he does have the quickness to make defenders miss in the open field and the long speed to create big plays and make defenders miss. He also seems to be a very tough and courageous RB. His explosive quickness and elusiveness should help him adapt quickly to the NFL. Him and Blount would be a superb 1-2.

The Patriots can now address the guard and defensive line positions, whilst also drafting depth at ILB and CB.

With the 65th pick of the 2015 Boards Mock Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

Preston Smith - DE - Mississippi State

    635575227065747110-Preston-Smith-pointing-HS.jpg

After going offense in the first two rounds with Winston and protection for him in the form of Ogbeuhi, the Buccaneers switch their focus to defense and select Preston Smith, DE out of Miss State.

After cutting Michael Johnson, the Buccaneers were extremely thin at the defensive end position and even with the acquisition of George Johnson from the Lions, they could still do with adding at least one more end in the draft.

Smith measures in at 6'5", 271 pounds which is an ideal size for the role he'll be asked to play in Lovie Smith's 4-3 defense. However, his measurements aren't all that's impressive about him. He's superb against the run (the first segment in the YouTube breakdown basically shows what he's all about in that aspect of his game). In addition, if you watch his tape, you'll notice that his swim move is very effective. A nice breakdown of him was posted by BuffaloBillsDraft.com who make the analogy of him being an "ambassador for a front 7", someone who will do the dirty work and free up opportunities for others to exploit as opposed to being the one to light up the stats board, but hey, you need those players on your team too!

My main worry (and I've seen it posted by a few others too) would be that he might actually be more suited to a 3-4 just causing havoc inside despite his size, but I'm going to take a chance on him at the top of the 3rd round.

With the 66th pick of the 2015 Boards Mock Draft, the Tennessee Titans select:

Ronald Darby - CB - Florida State

    6_1160655.jpg

The Titans hand in their card and take Ronald Darby out of Florida State.

Darby is an absolute rocket which is ideal for moving downfield with receivers and/or making up for any mis-steps that he suffers. He's extremely fluid and athletic. He has been getting better year upon year and has massive potential IMO.

A very interesting statistic is that despite having PJ Williams on the opposite side, teams preferred to target Williams and stay away from Darby as he was only targeted once every 5.6 attempts last season (per Dane Brugler) which says a lot.

My main worries with this pick would be that his size isn't ideal and that he seems to rely on his speed a little too much which will get punished more often in the pros.

Corner is not the biggest need in the world for the Titans, but I have an early 2nd round grade on Darby and wouldn't be at all surprised to see him go late in the first come draft night. The opportunity to take him at the top of the 3rd is just too much value for Tennessee to pass up here.

With the 67th pick of the 2015 Boards Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select:

Lorenzo Mauldin - Rusher - Louisville

    nfl-draft-lorenzo-mauldin-10302014.jpg

I was surprised to see the Jaguars focus so heavily on offense thus far especially when they have put so many top picks into it their O the last couple of years and because they had a number of needs on the other side of the ball this season, so the Jaguars switch focus to the defense in the 3rd round, selecting Lorenzo Mauldin out of Louisville.

Mauldin is a 6'4", 240 pound rusher who made the transition to an OLB when the Cardinals switched up defense ahead of 2014. It was a move that really paid off for him in terms of production as he registered 51 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks (per CBS). Maudlin has a very nice burst off the edge and a great motor which ensures he will just keep coming and coming at you all game long. He has sufficient coverage skills when needed, uses his length well in more ways than one as he managed to bat down a number of throws last year and projects as a 3 down player in the NFL.

Also, how could you not root for this guy? He was in and out of foster homes as a kid (16 to be precise!) as his mother and father have been in and out of jail all of his life. By all accounts this has lead to Maudlin having an unbelievable work ethic and desire to succeed and many scouts say he's definitely going to be a leader in a locker room, just another quality to add to the many he possess.

The Jaguars are more than happy to take him at this point in the draft.

With the 69th pick in the NFL draft the Washington Redskins select - Daryll Williams - OT - OU

    Oklahoma_Sooners_ou3__large.jpg#ou%20sooners%20280x432

    daryl_williams_2011_11_26.jpg

Williams is a beast of a man and will pair with Trent Williams to give the Skins a very good pair of bookends. Williams strength is in the run game. He may not work out at RT but projects very well to OG if needs be.

    Strengths and weaknesses from NFL.com

    Strengths

Physical at the point of attack. Comes off snap with bad intentions and rolls hips under him to drive defender off the ball. Tough guy who leads by example on the field. Works to the whistle and enjoys the one-on-one run-game scraps. Competes as a pass blocker. Sees and reacts well to twists. Has power in his hands. Buries defenders on down blocks. Outstanding football character and overall work ethic.
    Weaknesses

Below-average athleticism. Won't be much of a factor in getting back-side cut-off blocks against quick linebackers. Gets weight forward and will lose balance. Marginal lateral movement. Plodder. Shuffles and gallops to wide pass sets. Struggled against Baylor and rung up for three holding calls. Unable to smoothly change directions and redirect. Body control needs improvement.

With the 70th pick in the NFL draft the New York Jets select: Lynden Trail - OLB - Norfolk State

    f97eacd82d9444c1966db94e70434128.jpg

    TB-Mock-Lynden-Trail.jpg

Lynden Trail is a huge man standing at 6-7 and weighing in at 270 lbs with the frame to support alot more. He originally joined Florida and redshirted his freshman year and saw very little playing time year 2. He was only 220 when he joined the Gators so was part of the reason for his lack of playing time. Played on the same pop warner team as Teddy Bridgewater in his youth (at tight end) he was blocked from moving to another 1st divison school by Florida so made the decision to step down to Norfolk state. He absolutely dominated for them the last 3 years as his stats show.
    • 255 Tackles
    • 41 TFL
    • 19.5 Sacks
    • 18 pass deflections
    • 8 Forced fumbles
    • 5 Fumble recoveries
    • 4 Blocked kicks
    • 3 Recieving TD's
He should be a day one contributor on special teams while he develops into a scary proposition at OLB.

    Strengths and Weaknesses from NFL.com

    Strengths
Long, athletic frame. Used as 3-4 OLB, but also spent time with hand in the dirt. Bender with ability to get low on short yardage and near goal line when on line of scrimmage. Drops smoothly into space when asked to zone up and has range to cover. Initial quickness off snap. Improved hand usage and overall technique as pass rusher during season. Accelerates to chase down runner in back-side pursuit. Just now grasping advantages of his length. Has bend and foot drive to control line of scrimmage vs. run with more coaching. Uses length well with 18 deflections over last three years. Has length and versatility to become imposing player with more experience, coaching and toughness. Was given reps as a tight end during the Thursday practice session at the Senior Bowl, and looked relatively comfortable as a pass catcher in the red zone.
    Weaknesses

Still very raw. Former high school receiver -- can be too passive at times on the field. Doesn't play to his size. Stays wired to smaller, less-talented blockers for too long. Drag-down tackler with few punishing hits on tape. Will take wide angles to quarterback as a rusher. Relies on chopping right hand to defeat punch and must diversify pass-rushing portfolio. Tape fails to show a relentless play demeanor and majority of production comes from size and athleticism. Unskilled and inconsistent with hands and can get "beat up" by tackles because of it. Slow to diagnose and respond. Gets lost at times on field.

With the 68th pick in the NFL draft the Oakland Raiders select: TJ Yeldon - RB - Alabama

    81H3G4wpOZL._SL500_AA300_.png

    tj-yeldon.jpg?w=640

The Raiders add TJ Yeldon to go with Latavius Murray for a solid one two punch. The more support that they can give David Carr the better he will be.

    Strengths and weaknesses from NFL.com

    Strengths

Has good size with room on his frame to add more bulk. Exceptional hips and foot quickness, using both to weave and dart through the trash between tackles. Quick, decisive reads on zone plays. Has ankle flexion to dip, one-cut and burst through second level and into the third. Creative runner showing innate feel for running lanes. Anticipates creases that are developing and makes himself skinny to squeeze through. Effortless lateral movement. Can make tacklers miss and change tackle angles in confined quarters. Above average out of backfield and after the catch. Productive when playing through pain.
    Weaknesses

Upright runner in space, opening himself and the ball up to big hits. Pad level too high at point of collision. Mediocre power for size. Doesn't push the pile and won't run through many tackles. Pass protection lacking. Throws shoulder at pass rusher rather than squaring up and taking on with good posture. Tends to bounce and juke a little too long at the second level. Must improve ball security after fumbling 10 times over 576 career carries. Needs to improve willingness to keep play flowing play-side rather than over-thinking cutbacks.

With the 71st pick in the NFL draft the Chicago Bears select.....

    Cna_gobears.jpg

Donavan Smith, offensive tackle, Penn State

    DonovanSmithPSU.jpg

The Bears took a defensive end and a middle linebacker in rounds 1 and 2. Another outstanding need is a replacement for Brandon Marshall but there is depth in this draft and we can make an attempt in later rounds though I'm certainly not saying we'll find another Marshall who was taken in the 4th

Cornerback and safety are needs too but I don't see value in the 3rd

The Bears were 16th in sacks allowed with 39 in 2014. The run game was not so hot either and was 27th in rushing yards. I see 2015 as a return to more of a running game.

To upgrade the offensive line Kyle Long will move to right tackle and Smith the 6'6" 338lbs will play as right guard. With that size I see good things for the Bears pass protection and run game

STRENGTHS Plays with good functional strength. Plus leg strength and can drive defender off the spot. Uses adequate footwork in run game to go with powerful base. Has desired pad level and bend in pass protection and his initial sets are above average. Plays with good pace on play-side zone plays, which bodes well if he kicks inside

WEAKNESSES Athleticism lacking to play tackle. Struggles to change direction against pass rushers. Can recognize stunts but is very slow to react to them. Ability to recover when beaten is lacking. Poor hand usage in run and pass blocking. Plays with hands too low and a weak, ineffective punch in pass protection. Must improve as a block-finisher. Poor contact balance and overall strike effectiveness on second level.

With the 72nd pick in the NFL draft the St Louis Rams select

    220px-St.louis_rams_textlogo.png

    Alex Carter, cornerback, Stanford

    alex-carter-ncaa-football-utah-stanford.jpg
The Rams don't have a lot of needs and have taken an offensive tackle and a center so far in the draft. Going by the rule that you can never have too many defensive backs the Rams take a physical cornerback at 6'0" 200lbs which follows the trend in the league for larger corners. Carter is known as an aggressive corner with 41 tackles in 2014 so he is good at run support. He does draw flags and will have to be coached in the league to temper his aggressive style of play. But he is not just a man coverage corner, being a player from Stanford he will be smart and has played a lot of zone coverage. I believe he will fit in well with Gregg Williams complicated defense.

Carter has been drafted as a cornerback but he can be moved to free safety in the future also

With the 73rd pick in the NFL draft the Atlanta Falcons select

    22.jpg

    Grady Jarrrett, Defensive Tackle, Clemson

    Grady-Jarrett-Clemson-2014.jpg
The Falcons defensive line needs help and fast. Finished a pathetic 30th in the league in sacks with 22 in 2014 while the run defense needs help finishing 12th for rushing yards allowed? Know how you get far in the playoffs? You stop the run is a very important part of it.

The Falcons have taken a pass rusher and a running back so far and I am adding a defensive tackle. Grady Jarrett is not the biggest interior lineman you've ever seen, 6'1" 304lbs. He is super aggressive though and fancies himself as a nose tackle and I believe he can play both 3-4 and 4-3. A three time All-ACC player and was named co-defensive player of the year by his coaches his freshman year. He can rush the passer though the standard is so high in the pros but I can see him getting 2-3 sacks per season.

Jarrett will join the Falcons defensive line rotation, he can play all three downs if needed and will occupy blockers to help move the Falcons up from 30th for sacks

With the 74th Pick of the Boards.ie NFL Mock Draft, the New York Giants Select:

Derron Smith, Free Safety (FS) out of Fresno State.

    B9315185071Z.1_20141119161032_000+G519672HT.1-0.jpg
The Giants look seriously light, in the secondary, especially at Free Safety leading into camp. With Smith they get a Safety that does all the basics right, and plays his heart out. At 5’10 he’s touted as being too small to make an impact on the NFL, but his footwork is impressive as is his tape covering receivers. Tight Ends will target him but he’s strong, and his instincts on the field make him a risk worth taking. Tyran Mathieu was also said to be too small, but outside of his injuries, he’s made some decent plays in the NFL. According the NFL.com scouting report, he had to carry an inconsistent Fresno State defence last year, leading to his stats dropping off a bit. He also played through some of the season with a Sports Hernia, showing some serious commitment. Surrounded by other NFL calibre players could see Smith shine.

With the 75th Pick of the Boards.ie NFL Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints Select:

    nes.jpg

Devin Funchess, Tight End (TE) out of Michigan.

    Michigan%20Logo(1).jpg

    BaVza61CIAAZ0wV.jpg

Was tempted by taking a QB like Hundley here to learn behind Drew Brees for a couple of years, but I’m not convinced by any QB after Mariotta and Winston. The Saints got rid of their star TE, in Jimmy Graham over the offseason, and as yet haven’t replaced him with any great effect. While the they have Orson Charles and Ben Watson, neither strike me as a great number 1 TE for 2015. Devin Funchess has the tools to be a great Tight End, if he puts in the work. His combine was a real let down, and it seemed that he hadn’t prepared for it like he should have. His Pro Day numbers told a different story and was more in line of what was expected of him with a 4.47 and 4.53 to make up for the 4.70 ran in the combine. Funchess has played both at Tight End and Receiver for Michigan. He’s a big bodied guy and runs his routes really well, which is a big plus when you have Brees on the other end of the ball. He does drop a few balls, and plays a bit slow, but with good coaching, I think he could be a hit with the Saints.

With the 76th Pick of the Boards.ie NFL Mock Draft, the Minnesota Vikings Select:
    885.gif

Mitch Morse, Guard (OG) out of Missouri.

    University-of-MO.png

    Murray22-Morse.0.jpg

The Vikings struggled on the O-Line last year with the 27th Ranked Pass Rush defence in the league. Charlie Johnson was released after a poor year, leaving 5th round pick from last year David Yankey and Joe Berger to fight it out for Right Guard. Neither is a good enough option, and I think Mitch Morse gives the Vikings a stronger looking line day one. At 6’5 and 305lbs he’s a nice size for a Guard, he’s smart and hard hitting. He has good technique and has decent speed for blocking downfield, or if he’s pulled out. His short arms are a worry as is his weakness after the initial hit, but he plays smart and keeps his QB safe. Teddy Bridgewater would be happy to see this guy’s name being called in the 3rd.

With the 77th pick the Cleveland Browns select:

    Nick O'Leary TE, Florida State

O'Leary received the award for the top collegiate tight end in 2014, so could go some of the way to replacing Jordan Cameron. He's a solid all round player with good hands and an ability to block, something which may be key in Cleveland especially with Manziel back there at QB. He rarely drops passes, and really fights for more yards after catchers with his physical style of play. On the downside, at 6'3'' he's not a match-up nightmare, and he doesn't possess elite speed but he is quick enough. He would give Manziel, or whoever is back there another option to help them succeed, alongside Parker from the first round.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

With the 78th pick of the draft the New Orleans Saints select:

    Jarvis Harrison, OG, Texas A&M

Harrison hasn't started as many games as I would like for a lineman, with fewer than 40 games. However, he started every game of his first two seasons blocking for Manziel. He won't have to deal with that unpredictability with Drew Brees, who is a far more orthodox quarterback. Harrison should also hopefully help with the run-game which the Saints would probably lean on more this year. He has some versatility, playing a few games at left tackle this year. However, he had some injury concerns this year causing him to miss a few games which could be a bit of a worry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Barney92

With the 79th pick of the draft the San Francisco 49ers select:

    Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana

The 49ers have lost Willis and Borland this offseason, and with Bowman on his way back from injury inside linebacker is a need for them. However, they have also lost Frank Gore this offseason and if they want to help Kaepernick continue to develop they need a strong group of running backs to help him out. So with that in mind, Coleman could be the man. He has excellent burst, getting to top speed very quickly. He ran a 4.39 40, so top speed is pretty quick as well. What I find impressive is that he never looks to be actually running that fast. He seems easy to him. It's quite a smooth running style, and he is more than willing to try to run over or through defenders at the same time. He broke a school record going for over 2,000 yards on the ground, however there is a worry that he isn't fast enough to run away from NFL defenders and isn't quite big enough to run over them. He gives everything on every play, which is a good thing but may lead to injuries against bigger and tougher defences. He was also a decent returner in his first season, which would be a decent way to see playing time in the beginning.

With the 80th pick of the NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select..

    54208ff5dc596.image.jpg

    Steven Nelson, Cornerback, Oregon State

The Chiefs have a major need at ILB but can't take anyone at this position that's left on the board without it being a reach. They'll be able to pick up someone in the last few rounds. They also need some help at cornerback though and especially in the slot so Nelson should fit well here. He's small at 5'10 but quick and tough which are prerequisites for the role. I'd considered Ifo Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon here but he had a serious injury before the National Championship Game so you're taking a bigger gamble.

With the 81st pick of the NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select...

    1200686.jpg

    Arie Kouandjio, Guard, Alabama.

The Bills could do with finding a QB somewhere but there's no one outside those at the top that are going to improve them right now without a lot of work and time spent learning. Instead they need to give their run game a chance of succeeding with improvements between the tackles and Kouandjio will give the Bills added stability at the guard position. There's also the fact he'll be playing alongside his brother Cyrus (a second round pick last year) and was part of a formidable offensive like at Alabama. His biggest question mark is his durability - he's had a couple of knee injuries and operations in his time at Alabama.

With the 80th pick of the NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select..

    11701258-large.jpg

    Reese Dismukes, Center, Auburn.

After sorting out the CB and ILB positions in the first two rounds - the next biggest need for the Texans (if Myers doesn't resign) is the center position. Reese Dismukes is the best remaining center left. A four year starter at Auburn, he'll need to get a bit bigger in the NFL but I think he fits well at the Texans who will be a run first offense again next year. Dismukes was the winner of the Rimington Trophy for the best center in college football in 2014 following in the footsteps of players like Dominic Raiola, Bryan Stork and Maurkice Pouncey.

With the 86th overall pick in the AF Boards Mock Draft the Arizona Cardinals select

    CB- D'Joun Smith-Florida Atlantic

For me the Cardinals three biggest needs heading into the draft were RB, Linebacker and CB, the first 2 were addressed in rounds 1 and 2 so I've decided to go with D'Joun Smith here to come in for the departed Antonio Cromartie.
Smith is a corner who has impressed sources with his speed and athleticism, and his strong play in 2014 earned him an invitation to the Senior Bowl. He totaled 53 tackles with eight passes broken up and one forced fumble on the year. Smith has the speed and athleticism to be a cover corner, which is partly why opponents didn't throw his direction much this past season. In 2013, he recorded 13 passes broken up, seven interceptions and 35 tackles.
He lacks ideal size, length and strength and can be outmuscled at the line of scrimmage. Smith is aggressive in run support, but has room to improve his tackling technique and consistency.

With the 87th overall pick in the AF Boards Mock Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select

    OLB/DE- Markus Golden-Missouri

The Steelers go Defense again in round 3, for me outside linebacker is their biggest need in the draft. James Harrison isn't getting any younger and Jarvis Jones is coming dangerously close to been given the bust label.
Despite playing an estimated 40 percent of the snaps last season, Golden recorded 55 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks, he also broke up eight passes
The 6-foot-2, 260-pounder has speed off the edge with some strength to him. Golden is a bit of a tweener DE/OLB who would fit best as a 3-4 outside linebacker which the Steelers run

With the 88th overall pick in the AF Boards Mock Draft the Detroit Lions select

    CB-Ifo Ekpre-Olomu-Oregon

The Lions got a nice year out of Rashean Mathis last year, but they can't count on that for the long term. Taking a corner on Day 2 makes sense.
Ekpre-Olomu suffered a serious injury (ACL) in bowl practice that ended his season and took away his opportunity to play at the Senior Bowl. The 5-foot-9, 192-pounder is a good cover corner, Ekpre-Olomu notched two interceptions, nine passes broken up and 63 tackles in 2014 before injury struck.
He has many of the requisite skills to survive in both press and off-man, displaying quick diagnose skills, twitchy reaction time and the athleticism to break on the ball. Ekpre-Olomu shows swivel hips, smooth footwork and explosive lower body skills to close in a hurry on the ball.

He lacks prototype size and relies on vision, timing and hand-eye coordination rather than extraordinary speed or fluidity to shut down opponents. Can be easily tied up by blockers on the perimeter

    Rob-Havenstein.jpg
At this point in Mannings career the Broncos need to give him every opportunity to win now. That starts with the o-line. Michael Schofield is top of the depth chart at RT, and while he was a third round pick last year, he didnt see the field. If Elway doesn't feel he can keep Peyton upright, he needs to draft a potential replacement.
Havenstein can be the guy. At 6'7 and 321 lbs he definitely has the body of an NFL O-lineman. Looking at Melvin Gordon tape you can't help be impressed by this guy.

Mike Adams is a decent player for the Colts secondary. However thy need a long term option opposite him. Signing Dwight Lowery means theres no rush here but he is not a long term solution. Drafting a player like Holliman would be a great option. He can come in and compete with Lowery and either become a starter straight away or somewhere down the line. Holliman didn't perform very well at the combine and had a poor 40 time but he's undeniably a great ballhawk. He made a record tying 14 interceptions last year and would be a good addition to the Colts secondary.

With one of the top offenses in the league , plus Maxx Williams, I'd expect Ted Thompson to go defence heavy in this draft. Paul Dawson filled a need at LB and I see CB as another position of need. Losing Davon House also forces the pack to go CB with at least one pick, as House was CB no.3 in the rotation last year. I feel Diggs is good value here. He's a smaller corner and not incredibly quick but he is tough and aggressive and a great technician. He can play both inside and outside and was a 4 year starter for UT

With the 95th pick in the 2015 Boards.ie Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select:

    John Miller - G - Louisville

    524999_136705843131897_1161354432_n.jpg

With the Seahawks losing James Carpenter and Max Unger to the Jets and Saints respectively, they have 2 holes in an offensive line that was already in need of some work. Grasu was taken in the 2nd round to fill the Max Unger sized gap at C, and now this GM takes John Miller out of Louisville hoping to fill the hole left by Carpenter.

Miller was a 4 year starter at Louisville and played both LG and RG during his time there. Thus, he enters the pros with a lot of experience. Despite being short at 6'2", he has long arms and uses his length well in pass protection. Analysts say he has a very quick burst off the snap, has an excellent punch, is a "people mover" in the run game and is well able to move in motion to make plays away from the line of scrimmage.

The knocks on Miller would be his height and getting knocked off balance more than he should. I have seen it said that he is only likely to fit a power scheme too, but that's perfect for the Marshawn Lynch led Seahawks.

Ironically, Matt Miller gives him a pro comparison of JR Sweezy. If the Seahawks could get a similar impact from Miller as they did from Sweezy, they'd be delighted.

With the 96th pick in the 2015 Boards Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select:

Mario Edwards Jr - DE - Florida State

    Mario-Edwards-Injury.jpg

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98jhWbH0tTE

Okay, first off I'll say that he's certainly a bit of a project, he's raw, but I really like this pick at this point in the draft and especially the fit with him going to the Patriots.

21 year old Edwards Jr is a 3 year player out of Florida State. Last season he registered 44 tackles, 11 TFL and 3 sacks spending time playing at DE, DT and OLB. His versatility really is his biggest strength and I think the Patriots could get a lot of use from him in a variety of different ways. Analysts say he has good acceleration, is athletic, backs tackles up, is very flexible and has good balance and isn't out of his depth when dropping in to coverage.

The biggest knock on him would be motivation. His weight has balloned up and down over the years and there is concern about his effort. But if you can't get motivated to play for a team like the Patriots and a coach like Belichick, then what can get you motivated?

If the Patriots can get him ticking, and I'd bet that they can, I think he's a player who would be a lot of fun to watch used in numerous ways. Matt Miller gives him a pro comparison of Fletcher Cox.

With the 97th pick in the 2015 Draft the New England Patriots select:

    Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn

The Patriots have Edelman, Amedola and LaFell, but their recent drafting at this position ahsn't been great so they will probably give it another shot considering how many picks they have this year (Amendola will probably be gone next year, apparently...this GM really isn't very well informed!, so that speaks to the need as well)

6'1" and 212 pounds, he looks very strong to me, not bad speed for a guy his height but more likely to take the top off a team.

Not perfect by any means. Drops a lot due to concentration issues, the NFL Draft profile says that he tends to change speeds running deep routes which leads to a lot of "overthrows" that are actually his fault and not the QB's. But with a good coaching staff ready to impress on him the importance of communication with the QB, he offers fantastic potential to provide a serious vertical threat for the Patriots. We know they have the right staff and the right QB...

With the 98th Pick of the 2015 Draft the Kansas City Chiefs select:

    Josue Matias, G, Florida State

The Chiefs have addressed their urgent need at WR, and have begun to develop their OL. They also need a good ILB but those aren't in plentiful supply at this point, so I decided to go OL again, because any time I saw Alex Smith last year he was on his ar$e after being sacked.

In that regard Matias might be a bit of a reach here, for two reasons. First, he is better as a run blocker than in pass protection, and secondly, NFL.com has him projected to the 5th round. But Walter Football puts him at the bottom of the 2nd. So, each to his own...

Matias has very long limbs, is quick-footed and excellent at reading the situation at the snap. NFL says he's susceptible to inside moves in pass protection, but his quick responses and timing point to good instincts, which means he provides potential for improvement.

(Sorry can't find much video that is focusing on Matias instead of Winston, other than his high school highlights)

With the 99th pick in the NFL draft the Bengals takes

    oklahoma-sooners.jpg

    Blake-Bell-420x291.jpg

Blake Bell - TE - OU

With Jermaine Gresham as yet unsigned the Bengals need a TE to pair with Tyler Eifert. The Belldozer has only 1 year of experience at the position as he spent time at QB & RB for the Sooners. He is a big man with very high athletic upside. He would have alot to learn from a blocking standpoint but offers very good receiving ability and looks a mismatch at 6-6, 250lbs and a 4.8 40. He had a strong showing in the East-West shrine game to boost his stock.

    Strengths and weaknesses from NFL.com

    Strengths

Looks good on the hoof with a frame suited to addjust a little more weight. Former quarterback with a feel for space whenrunning routes against zone. Confident pass-catcher with ability to run throughsafeties and maximize each catch. Plays with competitive spirit and verycoachable. Improved by leaps and bounds as a blocking tight end. Keeps handsinside and plays with wide base and ability to sustain in pass protection. Hadreps in which he held his own against Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman.

    Weaknesses

Extremely raw in new position. Takes some awkwardangles to blocks in space and is learning how to play with better body control.Currently lacking as a drive blocker and edge sealer. Limited as a routerunner. Tape shows game gets fast for Bell as he continues to learn nuances ofposition. Separation comes from scheme of route ability at this point.
