I'm quite nervous about buying, as I have very little knowledge on the hardware side. Physically putting it together is one thing, but buying the right parts is another.

    1. What is your budget? [€1300]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming. The latest along with

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No.

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes.

5a. If yes, what size do you need. 24'

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Need wireless card.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Have no experience of this, but willing to learn.

    8. How can you pay? Can do bank transfer if needed, but hopefully can use AIB Visa Debit.

    9. When are you purchasing? Ready to purchase.

I haven't given any other directions as to what I want, simply because I'm sure there are people here that know better.

I have heard from different people that places like Hardware Versand and Amazon UK are good places to buy from for Irish PC builders, but I don't know really.

I'm not interested in having distracting lights on the case or anything. Let the system performance do the talking I say.

I suppose I would like an SSD and a decent amount of storage on the second drive.

I have a console that I would like to connect to the monitor too, if possible. I don't know if it is possible with most monitors....

    Get a 120 SSD. For windows. 65.. 1 tb HDD 45-50.

    Gigabyte gtx 970. 350

    Processor I5 4690k or the I7 4790K . 200/30

    A z97 board. 120+

    PSU 600w be quiet.

8 gigs of ram 1600. Crucial ones will do. Say 65-70 depending on which brand you opt for.

Case I'd say nanoxia deep silence 1.. 90 euro.

    Rough draft any questions.

You have a regular CPU ( non overclocking)

And an expensive overclocking mobo. The mobo won't get you running games better. A better CPU will help.

Personally I'd get the devils canyon I5.
And a slightly lesser mobo. Asus pro will do.

Wouldn't spend that much on a 600w. Can get a 700w for that price. The be quiet 7 600w . About 65 euro will do plenty. New graphics cards don't use too much. You could run two on a 600w.

    Your call.

I picked the wrong CPU model by accident.

What do you reckon? (Forgot to add in dvd drive earlier)

I'm gonna have a think about it and ask around a little more. I'm ready to buy, but wary of getting poor value for money, since I'm so short of knowledge. Haven't really been a proper PC gamer in over 10 years.

I really appreciate your help, genuinely.

You should get a "Z97" mobo to get the most out of that CPU.

Did you run all those parts through Geizhals.de and use hardwareversand. If you have not already do you may save some.

The parts you have are no compromising on quality.
The pc specs as they are right now. Ultra gaming on 1080p.

The graphics card and brand is best out value/power out of the box as far as I know. Good cooling and noise.

The case is really good. Subtle on looks but really good cooling and like the name says quiet.

The psu is a quality German maker.

Ps do not forget to use Geizhals. With it you will get that build under 1300. Or add it to getting a 250gb SSD.

I'd recommend the i7 4790k, bought it recently and it does make a big difference in some games, like crysis 3 and battlefield with hyperthreading. You should be grand for a good few years with that cpu. Games like crysis 3 made my old i5 overheat

Thanks for the tip, although, that is putting me too far north of what I was planning to spend. I could spend it, but I think I might be happy enough with the i5 4690. I'm not sure the 100 and whatever difference is worth it for me.

What I've added below look ok? I know it sounds like a simple question, but there are so many choices, I'm afraid that I've picked the wrong thing.

I apologise for asking such a stupid question, but I've been on skintflint and Geizhals a few times since yesterday and I still can't figure out how to do what you've suggested.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

Not stupid at all. You put the part you are looking for in the search. Example gtx 970. Pick the gigabyte model.

Then a list of shops show up. You click hardwareversand.de . Then hit add to basket. Do this over and over with all parts keeping the last tab and part you bought open. it will save your basket. Then at the end go to basket. Will have all your parts at the discounted prices. Should save around 40-50.

    Try the

    Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H. Mobo. 57 with Geizhals.de

Nothing wrong with the MSI one. Just think this might be better value.

    But its not big deal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 106 ✭✭Redditor

    Try the

    Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H. Mobo. 57 with Geizhals.de

The two of these are 166,94€ and 197,37€ on HV.

Is there much difference between them and the MSI one?

Edit: MSI one is 141,74 €

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

Not much difference in most of them. You can get an Asus z97 A . Think 120 ish. Look don't stress too much about the mobo. The gigabyte one I posted is 150 ish. Has some good reviews.

Do some research on the monitor. Pretty sure you can get a good one for cheaper than 280.

Thanks. Re: the monitor, it has features I want, but yes, it does seem on expensive side.

I know it sounds a bit daft when I'm building a gaming PC, but I would like to be able to plug in Xbox to the monitor also and not have to mess around to get audio. Same goes for TV.

If its what you want then get it. can't fault it at all Games will look really sweet. Check the priced difference between that and amazon.co.uk . Simply because amazon are better to deal with. And the free delivery makes no difference.

    Scratch that 330 on amazon.

I asked on reddit buildapc for feedback on what is basically your build.

Got no responses when I asked before but maybe since there is an actual build listed, someone might answer.

You seem like you know what you're talking about, but if I'm going to spend a grand and a half or near enough, I'm gonna try to get at least one other opinion.

Has been harder to get that than I thought it would be.

Of course. Get as many opinions as you can. Try toms hardware too.

It's the weekend so don't sweat it. Normally I wouldn't be around either. Google some benchmarks on price/performance for parts.

    PSU is 62 with Geizhals.de

Reddit user missed the fact unlike most that are bronze rated. It's a silver rated PSU. meaning better quality. which for 62 is a bargain.

Hi Guys, planning on purchasing a similar build but going with a matx board and a cube Case. i got the price down to just about my budget. not sure if you already know but you can get a discount code for 20 euro when you spend over 1000. The Voucher is from (gutscheinsammler.de/gutsc...ardwareversand). Not sure if i'm missing anything else, also using old laptop hard drives for storage.

Thinking of purchasing the following gaming build tomorrow. Haven't a clue yet about the OS, is there way of using the OS off a broken laptop by any chance??

With Regards to the monitor, still unsure but id like an IPS.

I've given myself a day or two to cool off. I think I might push the boat out a little further. Get a better processor.

Have to add Window to the cost now too though as well. Thought I was getting a cheap key.

Which versions of Windows is best do yee think?

Redditor, have you looked into using any Free Linux based operating systems? I'm thinking about using Ubuntu to keep me thicking over. Cant get used to the Window 8.1 but upcoming 10 looks great so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 106 ✭✭Redditor

I'm not spending €1,500 on a gaming pc to play linux games!

More than likely I will install some flavour of Linux at some point, but I don't intend to be without my steam library when I put the machine together.

I was a student but I recently graduated. Still have access to my student email though. How thoroughly do they check your status? :P
