    I'm looking at a buying an 05 9-3 1.9 TiD.

    DILEMMA NO 1 -
I'm not sure whether i should go for a 120bhp or 150bhp engine. I've checked the relevant manufactures data (mpg, co2, 0-60, etc) but was wondering if anyone had some real time experience with one/both of these models?

I'm considering importing from the UK and if i did go this route the 120bhp model would save me 4% in VRT (120bhp = 147co2 = 20%VRT; 150bhp = 157 co2 = 24% VRT). If there is not much difference between both engines i would be better off going for the 120bhp.

    DILEMMA NO 2 -
I'm also undecided if i should save the pennies and go for a Linear model or splash out on a Vector? After checking the VRT.ie website i've noticed that the OMSP for the 2005 Vector/Vector Sport models (€23K) is approx €5,000 more than the OMSP for the Linear/Linear Sport models (€18K). But this is not reflected in the prices of cars in the UK, with differences of approx £1k - £1.5k between Linear/Vector.
If the VRT.ie figures are not realistic then there is no point me paying the extra VRT (20%/24% of €5,000 = circa €1,000) for the Vector model. Or would i be better off to import a Vector model, pay the extra €1K in VRT & give me a higher re-sale value of my import?

Any thoughts on either topic above will be appreciated.

Go for 150bhp in the lower spec. (which will still be fine). Best compromise.

    30bhp extra is significant.

there is an 150bhp upgrade available from Saab dealers. Today 17:22
Any idea what this costs? In theory i could then import a 120BHP, register it at 20% VRT from July, then upgrade it to 150BHP after a few weeks?

Dont go for the cheap spec as recommended above.

I'd go for the higher spec. Linear models are quite basic.

don't know about the cost, it's done by hirsch through Saab dealers AFAIK.

it's actually a 140bhp kit, but Hirsch claim the following figures.

    120bhp standard (8 valve)

    11.5 seconds 0-100kmph
    12.5 seconds 80-120kmph
    peak torque 280Nm @ 2000rpm

    with the upgrade:
    140bhp
    9.9 seconds 0-100kmph
    9.3 seconds 80-120kmph
    peak torque 310Nm @ 2000rpm

Compare that with the 150bhp standard figures:

    11.0 seconds 0-100kmph
    9.5 seconds 80-120kmph
    peak torque 320Nm @ 2000rpm

That is if their figures are accurate. unusual that both bhp and torque are less but they claim a reduced 0-100 time for the 140bhp
maybe there's a better spread of power through the rev range.
