    Hey all,

I am wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with a query I have in relation to Unions. I have a case against my employer, which is going on for a number of years. I recently joined a union, and after 6 months I will have full membership benefits, which includes legal representation from the Union.

I am wondering that, since my grievance against my employer is going on a for a number of years; after 6 months of membership, would the union take on my case, and provide me with legal representation against my employer to fight my case for me, and (Possibly) start legal proceedings against my employer

    Thanks

I can only answer for the union I am in and for someone in that situation, the answer would be yes, they would take up your case.

Legal proceedings would be a matter for your union. If they are taking the case as a body, then yes, but I don't know the particulars of your union. If you were taking a case personally, many unions will arrange for members to get first instance advice and then you make your own arrangements. It depends on the nature of the grievance.
