Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    New traffic management Customer Services Agents at Dublin Airport


    As the busy Summer season approaches the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) will have Customer Service Agents(CSA's) managing the flow of traffic on the Departures Road from Monday 28th April, 2008.

    The Departures Road, which is a high impact road, can have up to 1,000 vehicles per hour dropping passengers off during the peak busy hours early in the morning. The new CSA's will be positioned at each side of the pedestrian walk-way to improve the efficient flow of traffic there for all airport users.

    Passengers are reminded that the Departures Road is strictly for set down only. Also with effect from Monday 28th April unattended cars will be towed away without delay to an on-campus location at a cost of €140. Towed cars will also be required to pay a clamping fee in addition to the daily parking rate.

    Commenting on the introduction of the traffic management CSA's a DAA spokesperson said "The Departures Road can become extremely congested particularly during the busier peak periods and the new CSA's will help to ease that congestion by keeping the traffic flowing.

    To help reduce the volume of cars on the Departures Road customers picking passengers up are urged to do so in the short-term car park where a special rate of €1.50 applies for under 30 minutes" the spokesperson added.

    The new traffic management CSA's will also be positioned at the rear of the Car Park Atrium to manage traffic flows there.

    Thats gonna be fun, when they tell the local taxi firms that they can't pick up their pre booking from departures and the passengers go to the rank for taxis to Swords.....

    Fair play to them for making plans to deal with the problem now instead of ringing their hands in August wondering where the crowd came from :) On the other hand, I can't see many people volunteering to pay while they wait for passengers.

    It is as simple a matter of enforcing it and it will work. One gets moved on swiftly if you stop at the set down point where the buses stop and it flows quite well as a result. I have had many days when it takes 10-15 minutes to get from the ramp bottom to the top and most of the blockage is caused by people waiting on the ramp to pick up people.

    In America, many airports have free parking some distance from the terminal for people collecting passengers to wait, known as "Cellphone Parking". You can park there and wait for the person to phone you, then drive up to somewhere near the terminal to collect them. It seems to work well. Not that DAA would forsake a chance to earn more car parking money.

    Why anyone would even consider going near the departure road is beyond me. The DAA have an excellent drop off (and collect) set down area at the back of the multistory with direct travelator access to the departures level. There is plenty of room to set down and there is no abandonment of cars or traffic chaos, yet whenever I've used it there are little or no others.

    With regards to Swords pre-booked they can use the same facility, most request a call when you've landed anyhow.

    Of course people already do this in Dublin airport by waiting at one of the various free car parks around (The Coachman, Keilys, ALSAA, Airport Church, etc..,) and awaiting a phone call from their landed passengers then picking them up at the terminal. This practice has been going on for years.

    I generally get annoyed by people in the airport as they appear to leave their intelligence at the airport roundabout.
