Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

NCT on 1999 car

My car had passed the NCT when I got it last November and the date on it says its valid until January 2013.

Its my first car so this might be a stupid question but now that the laws have changed do I have to get it NCTd before the due date?

And should it originally have been tested every two years? and if so does that mean that my NCT is a forgery or something?

I thought all the paperwork was ok and bought it with the assistance of my dad and brother, both into cars, so thought it would be ok at the time. Im trying to sell it on now, no problems with the car, just need the funds, but would like to know this stuf in case im asked questions about it.

    Thanks!

Your car is not due it's next NCT until Jan 2013 but you can opt to get it done upto 3 months prior to that date. The change in the law means that any car 10 years or older will only have an NCT for 12 months from it's due date. So when your car gets NCT'd in Jan 2013 the new NCT will only be valid until Jan 2014.

The 2nd and subsequent NCT's can be done 3 months prior to their due date giving you a valid disc for up to 27 months. A car which is 10 years old or more from June 2011 is liable for an NCT every year instead of every 2 years, again you can do this 3 months early giving you 15 months.
