Right all joking aside for a minute!

I spotted a product called Nood Tea. Thought it looked interesting had a look at their web site (am not a tea drinker but am in the food business) when I looked at their website I thought emmm not for me the old dears that are my customers would rather die than use this sort of product with the marketing behind it.

Basically on the website there is a very sexual element to the marketing, about getting naked and dressing up. Now at first I thought harmless but when I considered the point of view of my customers I began to realise that this was marketing an everyday kitchen cupboard product using sex as a tool and it seemed just a bit bizarre to go there.

Tea is a sort of traditional Irish thing where it is wholesome and good, we have it all the time when we are dealing with hardships and so on, it's a reminder of comforts etc.

So the question is has advertising gone a bit far when marketing is trying to sexualise tea?

Sex sells. Ad men have known it for years.
Look at a good deal of ads on telly and you can see it.

There is absolutely nothing sexual about that website.

Admit it, you are just trying to promote it, aren't you?

Slightly off topic, but humour me.

There is a TV ad on these days for Newbridge Silverware. Mainly on Setanta, but i think i have seen it on Sky too. Gammy ad featuring one of Ireland's most endearing celebrities, one Ronan O'Gara. This commercial has been run before but it seems to be making a comeback.

I am almost certain one can see a partial nipple in this ad. Towards the very end, there is a topless woman with some (very reasonably priced and high quality) Newbridge Silverware covering her left nipple. You cannot see a full areola. I do not have a high definition television yet, but if this ad keeps running i'm off to Peats to buy a VCR. If i'm right about this one, and i'm condident i am, i shall be back with a half nipple for you shortly. I have looked the ad up on You Tube for your inspection, and had hoped to post a link, but sadly it has not been uploaded.

I've seen ads for Barrys tea that was more sexual than that website.

I won't look at the Nood website, there might be tea-bagging.

I just don't understand why they need to use the whole "dressing up" and "getting naked" thing it's tea we aren't talking about Gin or Whisky here that's what I am getting at and it's not just this tea website/marketing it's a wider thing really

You work in the food business? Presumably you've heard of Nigella Lawson? Sexualising any product is an age old tried and tested way of selling it. What have flakes got to do with blow jobs for example?

Also tea is as traditionaly Irish as ming vases and sweet and sour alsation!

I think you're quite obviously sexually repressed to an alarming degree.
Not even the most hormonally tortured 14 year old boy, could find anything REMOTELY sexual about that site.
It's a picture of a fúcking tea bag for god sake. The way you sold it, I expected a picture of a porn star in full fetish gear actually being tea-bagged.
You sir are nothing short of deranged!

Well, it looks like the advert is working..... to the point that people are talking about it on a forum and then probably with their friends.
Think I'll have to get some flesh on my business website and 'offend' a few folk!!!!

Jesus.... just noticed they have pink boxes for their bags too!

OP is shamelessly trying to subtly promote his/her new product!

    :pac:

It's a good idea.... give an opinion against it - it gets people checking what you're talking about and disagreeing with you... but gets lots of people talking about your product and visiting your website!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,812 ✭✭✭✭sbsquarepants

That's was the first thing i thought too. Well second thing, first was what the fúck is he going on about, then i though, he's trying to sell this shít!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,598 ✭✭✭✭prinz

A lot of advertising has gone to shíte anyway.
