Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rap music to me means Chuck D, Beastie Boys, Afrika Bambaataa or even the godfather himself Gil Scott Heron RIP.

Not some pasty Irish kid who is pissed off cos he cant afford an ipad 4 (or whatever ****ing version is out now)

What might the blonde girl featured in the advert givin it socks into da mic be sayin?

"yeah but.. no but yeah but.. Yehyeah"

only thing them kids'll be concerned about in 50yr is hip-op

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,041 ✭✭✭Seachmall

Yeah, the vast majority of it is cringe worthy but I wouldn't say that "Irish" and "Rap" don't go together.

It's music. Very rarely is a specific genre only possible by someone of a certain nationality (or race, which often comes up when talking about rap/hip-hop).

It's in a very early stage with a very limited pool of performers to pull from.

Give it 10 years and I think we'll see way more defined talent in the Irish rap scene.

rap is good, rap is great, a rap by an Irish man is the **** I hate .... maybe I should give it a go :p

I'm assuming that's "MissElayneous", skip to 1:30 to bypass the banter with funny accents.

Is the grafton street junkie rapper going to be on it?...that's the only way it will get any street cred.

image search shows she somehow juggles her rap with a leaning toward punk. or probably changed her tune in the most treacherous of manners as the fence she straddles is frankly barbed! are chavs really seen as the modern punk will check her out now I hope she's takin the p

The fact that you actually think Spiral influenced Irish Hip-Hop says it all, yeah. I've head he's he's had to leave hip-hop events because he gets so much abuse wherever he goes.

She has a very unusual style alright.

I wouldn't call her a chav though. She just has one of those funny accents you hear before getting mugged.

And she's shite live (I haven't seen here live, just videos on YouTube).

In fairness the lyrics are pretty good, and it's not the typical "Gangsta" bull**** most often associated with rap. It's directly relevant and relatable to her area and (presumably) from her experience. At least it's better than most of the Pop **** that's doing the rounds.

mouth off now are poets n artistes

I'm a huge hip hop fan and i have to say the majority of irish hip hop is pure concentrated shíte.

It's not an irish thing and it should be left to americans and some english people, in saying that there is some half decent irish artists out there but as i said the majority = scutter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,515 ✭✭✭LH Pathe

I was lax one time and liked a bit of rap, whether tricky or roots or bestial boyz long as it featured musicianship in there too

but mosta what that scene gave leeway to, 99.999% shìte alrite

The only reason Americans, and English to some extent, have dominated rap is because they've been doing it much longer and they've much larger populations.

Saying that's simply "mouthing off" is hardly fair.

    Nothing to do with it.

3 white rappers, completely different styles. Some of the best of their subgenres.

Only mainstream rap is dominated by ethnic minorities, once you exclude Eminem of course.

Even back in heyday of black culture w/ all the great musicality in funk n soul, you'd think it messed up all our thin lizzy heads were going around like the black folk from across the water. Stylish as it was

so you can bet u all look like mega clowns today. What an unfortunate dominant yoof scene yous have bn born into

It's a slur for white people who are into the hip-hop culture.

It was a joke by the way, in case anyone gets offended.

    Should be spelt "Wigger".

aah i see, it's just that you spelt wigger wrong and i hadn't a clue what you were talking about, well it'd be discussed a lot more thoroughly in the hip hop forum instead of the random shít gettin said in this thread.

IMO the Cork accent is more suited to hip hop because it has a natural rhythm and melody to it. The Dub accent is too flat`.
