Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

~ key virus?

    Not sure if its a virus or not but its appeared on the desktop of 2 pc's on our network, one of them mine. its a 523kb file called "~"

    Anyone come across this before?

    drop it in to Notepad and see what is in it.
    (do not use word etc. in case it has macros !)

    the program name may be near the top or at the bottom
    also check the date and time and look for other files of the same vintage ...



    ~ at the start of a filename or extension usually (but not always) indicates a temporary file.

    Note: ~ will the 7th character of a long file name in 8.3 dos format.

    I checked that out a while back after it started appearing on Net House computers, IIRC it's something to do with Outlook Express. I can't remember what it is though...

    Cheer's for the prompt replies - I thought I would check here first (ask the experts!):D



    I'll check on monday about using notepad- I tried wordpad :(

    All I could see was lots of "wingding" type "O" characters


    Is there a difference between using note / word pad for opening these file types?


    I would hope that dahamsta findings is more likely as the file on my PC is larger than the other PC as my address book is bigger.

    Use Notepad. It's an ASCII viewer, whereas Wordpad supports formatting. You want the former, not the latter.
