Maybe it's because I'm not Irish, but that seemed silly and actually kind of amusing in a couple of places.

It's obviously not meant to be taken seriously.

Its a typically weak humourous opinion piece in the indo and therefore by definition fit only to line ones bird cage with*

    * I'll let you decide how you are going to place the monitor in the cage, or even if you should

    see http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/the-new-rules-of-irish-manhood-2607618.html

is there any truth in this piece do you think? or is it just more bs from our good friends at the sindo?

To be honest, it's just a failed piece of opinion journalism. There is nothing to actually anchor the writer to the opinions he is espousing. It's not about him, or people he knows. It's just made up names and rough assumptions based of the limited exposure the journalist himself has had to the Irish culture. To be honest, it just kinds of reads like all the usual generalisations that get trotted out all over the internet every day.

Pieces like this can be amusing if done in a first person, self deprecating way but in this case the author is clearly looking to take a humourous shot at what he see's as the foibles and follies of the Irish man while at the same time ensuring we are left with no suspicion that he might actually suffer from the same.

Basically he lacks the writing ability to pull of what he was trying to do, kind of like watching a first time gymnast catch one of his balls on the handle of a pommel horse.
