Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So I might be heading away to Fiji next summer and my friend who was just there said there is this kind of drug which you would mix it with a drink called hava and it's supposed to be really good to try it out but did get a chance to take some home with him and asked me if I would bring some over when I go.

What is the legal status of hava in Ireland? Are we allowed to import for personal consumption. I read that it's not allowed to be imported for medical use which isn't what I want it for anyway.

MODS: Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I wasn't too sure where to put this :o

This is not suited to the Beer & Wine & Spirits forum so I'm moving it to the Legal Discussion forum.

You are talking about Kava (piper methysticum) I assume? It is not a scheduled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act so its not illegal in that regard. It might possibly fall under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2010 which has a "catch all" definition of drugs for recreational purposes, but that would be getting into legal advice which is a no no.

Either way I wouldn't risk bringing anything with even a slight question mark over it across an international border. Why would you risk having to explain to some customs agent what the strange plant is in your baggage? Not worth the hassle.

I assume that someone flying back from Fiji would have to stop in either NZ or Australia, and then possibly Singapore, then maybe London, and then back to Ireland.

If it was in someone's bag, they'd have to make sure that it was not illegal in any of the countries on the route home.

Try everything once, ideally on holiday. When you get home return to sanity.

(He says fully intending to finish the bottle of red he bough on the way home.)

Okay, seems I'll have to do a bit of research about the countries I will be transitioning through

Right then I should consider not doing it then! Just have to break the news to him. Thanks for all the replies!

OP, your 'friend' can't get this substance in Fiji so he's asking you to bring him a consignment, leaving you to worry about the fact that your bag and you will be transiting through multiple airports, most of which will have sniffer dogs checking bags behind the scenes.

You'd be certifiably mad to bring anything that is not 100% legal in every one of those countries you'll be passing through.
