Why they doing it? Surely if console version does not need it, then why the feck it is needed for vita?

Could be a compression thing - Vita cards are 4gb, where the blu ray discs are 20-40gb!

Either way, I'm glad it's not quite out yet. There's enough quality at launch to detract!

Caved and pre-ordered in Gamestop, I couldn't resist. Bank account won't be happy but I'm going to forget about that for now! Going to go with Uncharted and the 16GB card I reckon. Bring on the 22nd now!

Kojima said on twitter last week that they were about to start on redoing all/some of the voice work for the vita version so it won't be out that soon.
They were just recording some new lines of dialogue for the tutorials and stuff where the controls differ, e.g. 'Snake, swipe the screen horizontally to execute a CQC move' instead of 'Press square to...'.

I too would love to know when the collection for Vita is coming out. Too bad that it looks like Peace Walker won't be getting a Vita version, it's one of my favourite Metal Gear games.

right so we're getting our vita in just over 24 hours, so is there anything on the launch lineup that people here would like us to cover first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

    Uncharted and little deviants.

Then I would love to know in more detail how's the psn shop at launch.

    Thank you! :)

Escape plan, that looks brilliant i wouldn't mind finding out if it is.

So far i've found Fifa is the best use of the touch controls, Uncharted looks the best and Burning skies is the best FPS. But haven't played much else.

This might sound like a dumb arse question, but does uncharted has multiplayer on vita?

Do any of games have online multiplayer at launch?

Uncharted doesn't but Wipeout and FIFA do [with Wipeout also having cross play]

**** lads... My woman is just concentrated evil!!!

I came back home and found a lovely red heart shaped ballon and 2 envelops. A lovely valentines day card in one, and 100eu voucher for GameStop in second envelope... And that's when I decided to hold back on vita!!! Fuuuuuuuu! :D

So do brick and mortar shops have same deal as website? Or can I use voucher in online shop too?

    Uncharted doesn't.

Marvel vs. Capcom and Wipeout do. Wipeout has crossplay with the PS3. You can play online against players playing Wipeout HD on PS3. Not sure about other games.

So i know its prob been covered before but do we need a memory card to play the games on the cartridges? I am going to pick one up anyway as ill be getting a lot of digital copies but not sure if i can afford it next Wednesday (payday is 2 days later so things are tight) and dont want to rush getting a cheap 4gb one just to play Uncharted when ill need a much bigger one a week later.

You will need a memory card for some games. I don't think all of them need it though.

The below link doesn't mention Wipeout but I cannot be sure.

you're pretty much gonna need a memory card if you want to save games by my understanding. so it's essential alright

im press. couldve, nay shouldve, had it earlier, but there was a bit of a balls up along the way and ps canada couldn't make it so

so it's today, which is fortunate because the pile of games on my desk keeps getting bigger

postman should be here in the next 2-3 hours though

unfortunately no long term experience, but ive gotten to play it a few times in recent months and was suitably impressed. the real tester will come when she's not in a controlled demo environment though

I'm really tempted to pick up a Vita... but given my current financial situation, it would be insane!

    Interesting bit of news:

Don't really know what to think of that! Australia has always had a funny relationship with games, what with the heavy censorship and staggered release dates!

Hey Helix, you mention in the review that the Vita cannot be charged via PC. I have a tablet and smartphone that have AC adapters that connect via USB. Would they work? What is the voltage and amp of the PSV charger?

They've updated it with a reason, looks like it's Sony decided it.
UPDATE: Sony has responded to the news with the following statement:

For the launch of PlayStation Vita in Australia, with the specific target market being the active gamer we have chosen to launch the console with a focussed retail channel strategy across national specialist game and specialist technology retailers.

There is a long term vision for our revolutionary new hand-held platform, in the same way we had a long term vision for PS3, and anticipate that in line with this we will broaden channel distribution in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,721 ✭✭✭Otacon

Hmmm, could that be PR babble to say that they have low stock levels so want to limit releases to only a few retailers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Well tommorow after work I'll go to GameStop and check it out. Fella from GameStop told to my misses they finnaly got it for display!
I will book it off too if it will be really good.

It can, he just didn't activate USB charging, which is an option on the Vitaso you don't drain laptop battery.

the ac adapter for the vita actually connects to the vita via a custom usb cable, BUT that same cable can't charge the device while it's on and connected to a pc

the usb bus in your pc cant carry enough of a charge to juice up the vita when it's on, so it needs ac power from a mains for that side of things

    no, it cant

activating usb charging will only charge the vita when it is powered off. it has absolutely no effect when the device is on - it won't charge via usb if it's power on, whether usb charging is ticket or not in the settings menu

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,721 ✭✭✭Otacon

But would an AC adapter from another device [smartphone, tablet] work? What are the specs of it [voltage, amps etc.]?

The reason I ask is I already bring a smartphone charger with me to work [AC adapter + USB cable]. I want to know if I can just bring the PSV USB cable as well. If the voltage and stuff is the same it should work. I was hoping you could test it with your review Vita.

I was at the launch party last night - I'm still impressed by the hardware - played some Reality Fighters using the floor of the Button Factory as the arena which was kinda interesting and a nice implementation of AR. Wipeout was brilliant - felt fast and fun like I think Wipeout should (although being honest, I've only ever really been a casual fan of the series). I had a very brief look at Little Deviants, not enough to make a judgement, but it certainly made good use of the 6 axis (the level I played was like Pilot Wings making your character go through the hoops after jumping out of a plane). Motor Storm RC looked like Micro Machines, so that's all good with me. I didn't get a chance to play many more games.

I think if I owned a PS3 I'd be a lot more interested, but as it is, any time I have for mobile gaming (on a bus or travelling etc) is taken up with my (Android) phone and since that's already in my pocket, I can't really justify the expense to myself.

    gotcha

the ac adaptor for the vita is 100-240v 0.2A 50/60Hz with a 5v 1500mA output

in terms of whether or not a run of the mill phone usb based ac adapter will work, im not sure actually. ill have a scout around the office and see if i can find anything that matches the vita specs

    *edit*

given the effort that this chap has gone to http://www.dannychoo.com/post/en/26419/PS+Vita+USB+Mod.html i don't think it'll work

My Galaxy Tab AC adapter is 100-240v 0.35A 50/60Hz with 5v 2000mA output. Just slightly off. I'll test it when I get mine next week.

With figures so close I doubt the thing will explode. :pac:

generally you just need the same output voltage with the current being higher or the same never lower.

From that link it looks like hes just modded the cable to remove the data lines from the usb cable. You can purchase cables like this, generally with dual output, one of which is power/data and the other is power only. Seems relatively simple.

Being wrong or having to read, not sure which I dislike more.

what current does the ac output, as long as you can provide same or higher at same voltage out should work.

I think I've a few usb ports that output 3x standard.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

    5v 1500mA output on it
