Please park with consideration

    During the June Bank Holiday weekend there must have been about forty motorhomes at Cobh, a great sight to see and very welcomed by Cobh.

    However a significant number of drivers choose to park parallel to the quayside which created complaints to the local tourist office from day visitors in cars who found parking in short supply.

    Please remember that a motorhome parked across the marked bays and parallel to the kerb/quayside can consume up to five car parking spaces.

    In the interests of good relations with the general motoring public and local inhabitants please park with consideration, I'm sure the last thing we would want is for Cobh to sour against motorhomes and other towns considering following Cobh's example to shy away.

    Why would you need to point that out you might ask but that's why car parks are lined, its not just motorhome owners who can park in unusual ways but it's fair to point it out.

    The same happens in Strandhill and Mullaghmore in Sligo, neither place have an over abundance of spaces in the busy times so it is really inconsiderate to park parallel. This has been mentioned in other threads previously.

    Yes I agree as I was there but parked in the correct way, we don't want to upset other facility users.

    It would also help if councils actually marked out parking bays.

    Judging by niloc's 'photo, there are no markings on that piece of road, to rely on peoples common sense doesn't always work. This applies to car owners as well.

    Not showing in the photo but there are 10 marked spaces and even within those a number of motorhomes where parked across them :mad:

    Those in the photo were 'overflow' into the unmarked general parking area for all vehicle as there were about thirty motorhomes in all.

    What is bad about the conduct of the parallel parkers is that car users as a rule park facing the river in consideration for others and to maximise the availability of the space.
    Those motorhome drivers who parked lengthways really do need to consider the effect of their selfish behaviour on others as it gives us a bad press among other road users and denies fellow motorhome users access to marked spaces where they exist.

    Thanks niloc, that explains your 'photo and in that case there was clearly no excuse for anyone, motorhome owner or car owner to park any other way than within the lines.

    Parking fines should be issued as far as I'm concerned as it's the only way some people will learn.

    A lot of effort is going into 'selling' the idea of providing motorhome parking to Councils throughout Ireland.
    When parking is provided please park in a sensitive manner and don't hog multiple parking spaces by parking like the person in the photo did

    Such behaviour denies designated parking spaces to other motorhome users and if the parking area is shared with car users it gives us a bad name with the general public.

    there seems to be no need for that at all, those spaces are large....I;m thinking the sea views might be better parked paralell....

    Unfortunately there is always a few inconsiderate packers wherever you see MH's parked up in public places. I also see a trend towards having tables, chairs and barbecues out which is also not in keeping with parking. thats what campsites are for.

    Some of those mentioned have publicly stated their opposition to motorhomes parking up overnight other than in caravan and camping parks and would likely grasp the opportunity to exploit the bad actions of the few against the many who are respectful of the environment and considerate of others.
    They are unlikely to champion the cause :(
