Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Light on dashboard whole dash board needs to be replaced says the Merc shop for my mates Merc cl 5000 year 2000 with 140,000 miles on it
I was sitting in bar today when my Irish mate from UK rolled in with his Merc and told me the light on the dash board keeps stopping and starting every few seconds .He went to the local Merc agent here in Malaga Spain and they said they need to replace the entire dash board instrument panel which cost about ~€700.

I thought that story stank so told him I would check my sources and various forums .
I haven't seen the car as its a hike to go see it in parking center so cant say if all it needs is new bulb to sort problem .My mate says the dash board is old fashioned type with odometer in mechanical units not the electronic types with digital readouts
So any inputs from merc owners or merc mechanics appreciated

    Derry

A Mercedes garage will only offer to replace a faulty cluster so if he wants a cheaper option he will need to shop around for a local electronics repair shop who will do a repair for a fraction of the price of a new one.

Are all the cluster lights flashing or just a few?
    Check this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VmpCRABDVM

Have you checked MB forums, like http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r129-sl-class/1470160-1991-500sl-erratic-flashing-instrument-cluster.html

My understanding is that its just the light taht allows you to see the instruments in the night time .In older cars this was just a few bulbs .Int this cars its keeps flashing on and off constantly is my understanding so sounds like electronic like bad solder joint or chip that that has gone AWOL or relay that is AWOL

I think its called a backlight. I heard of it being a real pain before somewhere, but I can't remember the solution, sorry. It rings a bell because I remember that the whole lot had to be replaced as the backlight was the most expensive part of the cluster and it was cheaper to just replace the unit.
