Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had a set from an ML320 and sold them for £100 to a chap in the UK.... That's a bit cheap methinks!

Nice car, even nicer engine, but do you not think that is ridiculously overpriced?

He'd be lucky to get €900, never mind €1,900...

Not with the value that a fresh NCT puts on a car. Over-priced as I said, I think with there being so few left and if it's in good condition, I would think that €1500 is fair enough.

There's ridiculously few 156 V6's around, especially one's with reasonable miles and in good condition.

I bought my pretty mint '01 325ci for 2500 with fresh NCT. That chap is having a laugh. It's pretty much worthless.

    1 owner unmolested Impreza.
    Admitadly it's a 1.5 auto..!
Low miles. No mention of test.

Tested 940 estate. Surely to be got for 500 notes.
    Bit of test, auto, leather.
    Reasonable miles.

Jaysus hard beat that for a bit of bangernomics motoring.
Shame it's not auto, but a bloody good find..!

Pretty sure I know the owner of the Impreza (guy I work with just changed his car from an identical one with the remote starting). If it's the one I think it is, it was well minded.

It also has a fresh NCT though and even though it's a '98 reg, condition is more important than age. I think for 1000 notes less than yours it's not too bad IMO.

The only person who'd spend €1,500 on it is...

    ...you :p

C'mon man, don't try to defend the indefensible. No doubt the TB is due too (otherwise the ad would have said when it was done last)

The market for a 00s 2.5l BMW (requiring little ongoing maintenance) is limited. The market for a 90s 2.5l Alfa (requiring regular expensive maintenance) is non-existent.

Damn right I would. I looked into insurance quotes for the '04 V6 I poster a while back. They were rather high so to speak...:pac:

Yeah the TB is probably due too so maybe it's not that good. But it's under the bangernomics budget and I would certainly drive it.

I'm sure it would appeal to an enthusiast of which there are quite a few in Ireland. I think for rarity and I'm putting the V6 engine as a plus in my book makes it worth it for me. That wood interior looks delish as well...:o

looks really nice for what could probably be haggled down to €1500.

Serviced with a good service history, nearly new rubber all round, the guts of a years N.C.T., the only killer is the tax really?

This thread is about realistic market values of cheap cars. You really should bear that in mind ;)

That said, I love that Busso engine. Spent a weekend in a 916 spider a few months ago and loved it. Unfortunately for insurance reasons I couldn't drive it but I sure will next summer :)

    Dunno about any of that

What I do know is that there are some people in this country owning and driving nice cars considerably better than most other cars, and some of those people pay less for it in total cost of ownership than other people drving shiny bits of automotive excrement from Korea :D

Looks bloody tidy. Yours for around a grand with a bit of a haggle. No reason to have to sit a bangernomics sh!tbox when nice cars are this cheap.

    If I can't get insured on a 1.6 volvo as a student, I doubt they'll entertain me for a 2 litre Saab.

Then again, never know until you try.

    You might be suprised ;)

These things are not as expensive to insure as you'd think. Something to do with the fact that its predecesor (which went out of production 20 years ago) is still safer than some new cars today. Can you imagine how low the pay outs for injuries are in one of these. You'll write off another car in a car park by just opening the door on to one. You'd have to hit a small planet to get hurt in one. :D

My insurance went up about 15c from a 1.4 megane to a 2.0t saab 9-5.
You never know. Sure bang in an online quote there for the giggle.

    +1

Contrary to popular belief, insurance is NOT based on engine size of a car, or even how powerful or fast it is

It is only based on accident statistics. These statistics will no doubt show that the typical Saab driver is low risk, so insurance premiums will be low

Little factoid for the pub quiz: when the Saab 9-5 was tested by Euro-NCAP it was the safest car ever tested by them :)

It can't be. Getting insured on a 1.8 A4 is fairly easy (Albeit not cheap at ~€2000) but I wouldn't even be able to get a quote for a 2.2 Saab.

2.2 diesel? If so, then they probably think you'll do lots of miles and increase the chance of a crash, maybe?

Insurance on the 240hp jag was the same as the 90hp eventless diesel so there's no logic to it

Hi all, was told about this thread from a friend.

On the lookout for a Mazda 3 petrol, whether h/b or saloon.

€3k max budget, anybody know of any decent ones for sale? (West too preferably)

    Cheers, Kaiser :)

    Decent Spec.
    Service History.
    Long test.
Prob could do with knocking a couple of quid off the asking.

    Looks nice though.

Falls outside of bangernomics on a few levels, i.e. no tax or NCT, and 2k over the usual bangernomics budget, and moreover, isn't a banger, but it is very very cheap:

How flipping big is the gear stick?!

Edit: actually I thought they had a mad looking "space ball" looking gear stick in the manuals, or was that just a special edition like the r?

That was optional, cousin has it on his 07 S model but most other ones don't have it

Isn't the whole aim of bangernomics to buy the most inexpensive motor that is roadworthy, run it for a year or two and rinse and repeat? Or maybe I'm focusing too much on just the asking price in lieu of everything else?

You'd really need to see that 3 series in the flesh. From the pics, it looks like the front tyres are in need of a change. The colour looks pretty nice, but I notice there's an after market spoiler on the back, which looks a bit naff. There was a great looking 325ci here not that long back, for about 2500ish if i recall correctly, that looked a million times better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,268 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

A chaved up, 13 year old BMW with after market suspension that'll no doubt lead to an insurance premium and a crooked reg plate? No way it's worth 4 figures.

I wonder what percentage €650 is of the original list price. Maybe around half of 1%? The MPG figure might be even more startling.

Replace that front grill with one of these (if it fits) and maybe add a front splitter so it looks more like this one and it's quite a nice looking car imo!

Another 406 but quite unusual in white. Looks well. NCT 4/13 €800
