My buddy in Cork city wanted his dads BMW 3 series convertible detailed as it was looking a bit weathered and faded, the car is used only on the weekends and has covered only 30,000 miles in its lifetime, taking that into account I advised on the following:
    • Soft top restoration.
    • One stage polish.
    • Polish Angel Escalate lotion and Master sealant.
    • Trim restoration.

After a thorough wash, de-tar, clay I got on with the roof.

This picture is during the cleaning process.

    01-DSCF1101_zpsbfz33gdh.jpg

Lots of green algae being lifted from the fabric.

I rinsed the whole exterior once more and dried it in preparation for the re-dying of the soft top.

    02-DSCF1121_zpsiz9qlooe.jpg

This picture shows the difference, Left is before re-dying and Right is after re-dying.

After drying for twenty four hours I app-lied a fabric sealer to lock in and protect the nice, clean and revived fabric.

Next I focused on the paint work, being over a decade old it was in good condition but could be much much better.

    03-DSCF1111_zpsozfqsxww.jpg

This is a 50/50 of the boot lid after the one stage polish.

Next i machine applied Polish Angel Escalate Location and let it sit for 40 minutes, after that i applied the protection which was Polish Angel Master Sealant and again this was applied via machine.

Nice job and thanks for posting the pictures! Can you explain what this is?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,080 ✭✭✭JAMES VTI S

It's a dye that is able to soak into the pours of plastic unlike silicone products that lay on top and come off after a few washes, like I said easy use, cost effective and is good at what it does.

    It's a no brainer buy.

How long does it last for?

Haven't been using it long enough to tell, keeping in contact with the vehicle owners will give me a good idea.

Should be easy enough for you buddy to tell you when its gone off the car!

Perfection! Always thought you had a hatch vectra! Was it you that had your car written off, a red one? It was just after me joining here, so I'm not sure.

Treated the arches on my OH's MINI today as part of a good clean as its being sitting in our mechanics for 6 weeks. Very impressed with my go to product Chemical Guys New look gel, however it doesn't last long on the car, think of investing in some c4 as the MINI has a load of black plastic!

Agreed, gives a great shine for a week or two and then back to looking like it hasn't been touched for months. Currently using wolfs blackout, finding it ok on the plastics but crap on the tyres

Are you giving the tyres a good cleaning before applying - you'd should give them an APC clean each time you apply a dressing.

Oh....its one of those tyre shines:(

Ill try it out at the weekend and report back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

To be honest, they're all like that....if you want to get the most out of them!
They'll pick up a lot of dirt between coats, so you dont want to be putting on a fresh coat over dirt.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,510 ✭✭✭✭vectra

You have to give the tyres a good scrub prior to Blackout application. It lasts ages then and looks great.
    I love the stuff.

Today i cleaned the 900, it was a tad dusty

So i washed it, detarred the bodykit (yes it has a bodykit) Only found that out the other day, clayed it, polished it and waxed it, done the wheels and tyres and took care of the trim too, looks rather well! So piccys!

As I said, a tad dusty"

    nyd1ea.jpg

    rmptlt.jpg

    24oc09g.jpg

Obviously 24 years of dirt are gona show, and the claybar holds no lies, in a tiny space it gathered up this

    zjwjf9.jpg

Not as bad as some, but none the less

I let my brother do the alloys, he's never done any detailing before and i think they turned out well!

    rbgyfo.jpg

Next up was the bodykit and trim bits

    2dqvhhh.jpg

    The arches were really faded

    331dtsn.jpg

    And sometime later

    2vdphxh.jpg

The proper trim colour on the right and faded on the left

    2cgycyh.jpg

    And the finished article!

How else do you expect it to adhere and perform properly without cleaning the surface first

A buddy from the local boxing club asked me if i could give his van a little lift, the tirm was looking weathered and both outside and inside needed cleaning, the paint needed a bit of a polishing and the break calipers were to be painted.

With eight hours on tap to get it done i was in for a busy one, Sure why not says i :D

He wanted the calipers colour coded to the body so i got the paint matched and mixed then a serious wash with acid was in need before a scrub with a wire wheel.

    02-08-20150408_135131_zps9hjhja9v.jpg

Next that ugly, weathered trim was to take on a whole new appearance.

    04-10-20150408_152732_zpsn0czrdrq.jpg

8 hours and i'm finished, breaks, inside, outside done and ready for a photo shot.

That trim on the transits is so bad for fading, family members ones are the same.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭galwaydude18

What did you use to brighten up the plastic trim? Bumper etc.?
