I wouldn't have an issue with Mrs Brown's Boys if it was hidden away in the schedules on BBC NI, like Give My Head Peace or (better still) if it was still just touring grim northern towns in the UK. My main issue lies with the fact that something so blatantly unfunny and poorly performed has become so inexplicably successful, and is now beating vastly superior sitcoms in prestigious award ceremonies.

The first scene I remember seeing in MBB's was a dog barking outside when Mrs Brown walks into the room, she opens the back door and shouts "Fúck off". The audience were in stitches laughing, I thought it was something a 3 year old would come up with.
If that makes me a begrudger in some peoples book, so be it, but a few people need to look up the meaning of the word.

Comedy is one of the highest forms of writing imo, and certainly one of the hardest forms of acting; it shouldn't be exempt from the same standards we expect from our drama and other performing arts. It may often be flippant and silly, but it's still legitimate in its own right. No doubt that qualifies me as being one of these 'pseuds' people round these parts have spat, but it can't be said I don't say what I think

Your assumption is wrong, but that's not relevant. You seem to be of the (equally wrong) opinion that those who dislike Mrs Brown's Boys do so as a result of snobbery. I can't speak for anyone else, but I dislike it, not because it's low-brow, but because it's really, really bad. Most of the jokes (which invariably come into view a mile off) seem to have been directly lifted from O'Carroll's stand-up routine (having previously been lifted from other comedians), and with the exception of O'Carroll himself, none of the cast appear to be able to act.

Once it started to get big viewing figures I sat down and watched all the episodes. the truth it that it took about 4 episodes before I started to appreciate the show.

The show actually has a lots more depth than you would first think - especially if you are only seeing it in spurts or snippets. it's not all about swearing and falling down, in fact there are some truely laugh out loud moments.

So, in my opinion, some people are just not giving it enough of a chance, have a per-conceived idea that they hate it or MAYBE are just too dumb to understand it. But thats because I like it.

BRENDAN O’Carroll’s hit comedy ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ won the best comedy award at last night’s TVChoice awards in London.
The comedy has proved a huge hit for both the BBC and RTE, proving a huge ratings draw for the stations.
