DELL Inspiron laptop not working

    When I turn on my laptop I get a light blue screen with the following error message:

    STOP: C0000135 {unable to locate component}
    This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found.
    Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

    I would be grateful for any advice.

    Does it go through the boot sequence at all? Is there is Dell logo followed by the windows logo, loading bar etc?

    The Windows logo appears for about 20 seconds followed by the blue screen with the above message. Any advice would be appreciated.

    If dade's link doesn't prove fruitful see about booting into safe mode or using a linux boot disk like Knoppix to get all your files back just in case you need to reformat.
