    I am trying to finalize my CAO.

    My question is , is a pass in maths a requirement for Film & Broadcasting and Journalism, from what I can see on the course information, it is not.
    Can anyone confirm

    Well if you fail maths you fail ur leaving so you won't get any course ..

    Hello,

    I was just wondering could anyone tell me what this course is like? I have applied for it and I hope to get it however I would like to know more about it then whats written on the website.

    Has anyone here done it and what did you think? I have a FETAC level 5 in journalism and am using this to get in, however is it a good course for journalism students?

    (I dont want to do a regular journalism degree, as they focus on news only, I want to work in magazines)

    any comments would be great!

    I've just finished 1st year F&B (without Language). To be honest while I am enjoying it, it's not what I expected. You are supposed to do 50% theor and 50% practical, but it ended up for us being about 80% theory. This could have been down to the class size though. ours was pretty bigger than usual.

    While that's not bad, you do come out of first year with all this film knowledge, yet don't really get a chance to apply it. Now second year could be different.

    The practical you do is pretty good. You'll do Photography, Video, Audio, Creative Writing and some other stuff I'm probably forgetting.

    The theory was good, in bits. I really like Intro to Film studies. It's basically gives a broad account of the idustry, history etc. World Cinema (which you do in semester 2) I found tedious. While I did come away from it knowing some interesting new stuff, a lot of it didn't actually deal with cinema, but more the history and social issues arrising from different countries with struggleing or non-existant cinema industry.

    TLDR: Be prepared to put in a lot of work. The theory is tough, but if you hang in there it's not too bad.

    That's totally untrue. I got into Journalism through the CAO and I never sat LC Maths.

    I'm just about to finish up and I did it with Irish and specialised with Radio.

    Bar my dissertation I've only been doing practical work the last year and the doc and drama streams have been spending hours preping and shooting their pieces.

    Ans compared to other courses there's not a lot asked of you.Less hours than others and its more exams than essays.

    I've typed out a big long answer a hape of times so it'll be floating about on previous threads about this course.
